Well recently i was almost ripped off by a member im not going to say who or give any details. But being a power-seller on ebay i knew to send an e-check, and got my money back.

But i think we need two major changes.

1. Use a script or how ever it works on a forum. That you have to have the rep requirement to post in the forum. Cause people can come in a post a thread with 2 rep, and someone who thinks its a great deal may pay the guy, then he can disappear before an OCN admin/mod will see the thread. Make sense?

2. Also up the rep requirement to like 45 rep? Just cause i have seen people gain 20 rep in like 2 days. Still doesnt mean that are honest but they could just gain that rep to rip someone off.

I hope this makes sense

I agree, with the 45 rep requirement, I have gained/ given huge amounts of rep at a time. when i give it I make sure they have helped me first.
It makes sense and I agree. I've seen a lot of people with little or no reps going in there and post to purchase something from another member. The rep requirement protects buyers from sellers trying to rip them off, it only makes sense to do the same for the sellers.

I believe this came up before and people made the excuse that it was the sellers discretion to sell a product to a member. My response: You don't always know who is going to rip you off. I could deal with a member with three reps and be fine but a member with five could rip someone else off. Might as well try and stop this.

*Edit* Also, I got like 20 reps in the first two or three days of being here so I know how fast it can go.
sorry to say this that its proly not going to happen. just look at how many thread have been made about this

Let me start out saying this: I'm glad you got your money back and were not harmed.

Normal posting is fine imo, we want people to view the threads and potentially bump them, it can help the seller. By simply posting in a thread it really doesn't hurt.

Upping the rep requirement isn't going to happen unless the Admin says so. The rules have been in place for a long time and by no means are they perfect. But the forum has tried different rep point requirements and 35 has been the sweet spot.

No offense dude, but it's your fault if you buy from someone with 2 rep...

so 45 rep shows your a good seller? I've done a few transactions on here and never a bad one either buying or selling. I cant even sale on here because of the 15 rep thing but that's all good and dandy i can just sell on ebay with my 100+ positive feedback.

I agree but mods must approve the member before they can post in the F/S section once they reach 35 rep, so any suspicion should be caught when approved.

But totally agree, but i do think there should be a waiting period. such as once you reach 35 rep or 45 rep you must wait like a week or something.

35 or 45 doesn't really make much of a difference.

I have gotten ripped off by a member who had over 100 reps.

But I have also made many successful sales with members whom barely have 5 reps..

There is always going to risk involved buying or selling items on the internet.

There is really no sure way to eliminite it.
Maybe instead of upping rep having a 'seller rating' or whatnot.?
I would like to see it take into account, how long you have been a member!
And maybe how active a member you are!

We do have trader ratings. If you click on the number by trader ratings, it shows the transactions and a comment.

Also I don't believe members with under 35 reps can post in the for sale section currently.

They can post can't they? They just can't create new topics I though. I know I could post in there before I had 35 reps.

Well...you have to have 35 rep to post in the forum I believe. Also, raising it is a horrid idea. It took me almost 4 months to get 35 rep and by then, the item I wanted to buy from a member had already been sold. I do suggest, that some research be done for added protection measures. I hate eBay as much as the next person but if someone does try to screw you, you can always get your money back.

Not to sound rude but what does rep show? That your knowledged or the first one to answer the original OP's question.

In all seriousness it shows nothing about how trustworthy you are.
I think the hole rep is OK,I cant see how anyone can get over 35 reps in two days unless your a chick. You really have to look at the whole picture to see if your buy or sell worthy. I have bought 4 or 5 things from different members and its went well. I also have a 100 rating on ebay. But I don't know enough to get 35 reps on this site and Ive been here since 05 people just don't give reps If it wasn't for my new avatar i wouldn't of got one rep on 08.
Anyway back to what is the topic, you have to look at the time the person has been here his/her post number not just the reps,OK I'm done

This rule has been frequently debated and will not change as it is here for your protection. It is not necessary to have 35 REPs to reply to For Sale or Wanted threads, though all members are encouraged to make deals only with other members they are comfortable with. This requirement is coded into the system, and exceptions cannot and will not be made. In accordance with the TOS, members who do not meet the rep requirement may not post such threads anywhere on the site.

to bad the person who tried to rip me off had over 35 rep.

i know when something suspicious is happening, unlike people who may have never bought something on ebay/forums.

im just trying to prevent people on OCN from getting ripped off
