It's perfectly safe to switch to AHCI (which means "Advanced Host Controller Interface") from IDE mode after installing Windows with a simple Registry edit, so I don't see how he'd lose all that data on that partition. In fact, I can switch to IDE mode and back to AHCI mode right now and I won't lose any of my data. After all, it's just a controller interface.
Logistic: I believe it'll be perfectly fine because the partitions were created using a specific format (NTFS) which actually doesn't get created any differently if you're in AHCI mode or if you're in IDE mode. I mean, using AHCI this time around won't have any negative effect on the 750 GB partition.
