Cheap cheap build

354 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  PCCstudent
I'm looking to finally upgrade the core of my pc, because i don't think it has much life left. With the bad economy I haven't been able to touch my computer in forever, so I don't even know what's good anymore

What's the best and cheapest motherboard/cpu/ram I can get for $200ish.

Thanks for any help!

You need to be specific.

What are you using the PC for? Gaming? Folding? Do you multitask a lot?

If you can recycle everything else, you should be good.

you won't be able to do much with $200ish... it's best to just bare with your pc a little longer and save some more cash to buy better stuff

A build that I have made several times uses the DG31PR Intel mobo a E5200 cpu and now you have 80.00 left over for ram. No OC ability (because of the Intel Mobo) but I recieved a 5.8 Win 7 index score out of this setup. This is the cheapo desktop build that I provide people that just want to run apps like Word, browse, mail etc.

I use the Regor build personaly (but I have the M4A78T-E ASUS mobo which is DDR3) and it is much more future proof but I have more than 200.00 into it.

The DG31PR will accept Q6600 cpu's (I have that build also) with a cheapo 9400 GPU (the ASUS GPU is onboard) both have 4gb and run XP and I like both builds, they perform closely in the practical sense, but I don't have benchmark numbers for either. I have run both rigs on both XP and Win 7, with a better score on one of the Intel builds because of a better gpu. The 9400 rig did not get the 5.8 Win 7 score.
