Well my 7950GT is STILL the slowest thing in my pc atm so i thought that i would overclock it, but i've hit the limit atm, and i wondered if i could do anything to make it take a higher setting - would cooling do that? ie if i put some more cooling on the vram would it clock higher? if so how much would it set me back? and as i have some space in my case would adding a case fan (or these little mini case fans i have) near the main fans or on the card, would it help?

Sorry if i sound like a total n00b (i am!)

well you could get a vf900 and then volt mod it

but yeh usualy after market cooling does let you overclock a bit higher, but only because of temps, its increased voltage that lets you get insane clock speeds

Its still teh slowest? That RAM is looking VERY slow as is the CPU (probably bottlenecks the hell outta that 7950). But if you must, the Accelero X-1 or the Zalman's are decent.

my ram is crap, if thats the problem do i need more or do i need some DDR800 stuff (drools!), but seeing as in games my CPU usage is 85%, it makes me think that the CPU(@FX57 speeds almost!) isnt the limiting factor...

Our poor little A8N's can only run up to DDR400, but hey another gig would help.

Well what ever it is. I dont get why you would be trying to overclock that graphics card or claim that its the slowest thing in your rig. It looks to me thats the best thing in your rig. That graphics card is insain. The rest of the computer probably isnt to bad either. But what ever is the cause of your problem its not the graphics card. CPU and ram are probably the bottleneck.

Agreed. Overclock them, not the graphics card.

if you want to stay with your same CPU, get yuor hands on 2 GB of DDR500 (PC4000) RAM. That will enable you to overclock your CPU and keep our RAM at a 1:1 or close divider for quite a bit.

Agreed with others, GPU is most powerful part of your rig. Not many games actually use a whole lot of CPU power....

i have been using LFS (Ultra-realistic Driving driving game - physics make it very CPU intensive), that seems to leave the CPU at 85%, but now i think that perhaps having crap ram is limiting both bits

Getting faster ram and running it at 1:1 with the CPU will give you a considerable boost, especailly if its a 2GB kit.

how about modifying my fan to run full speed, it wants a 4-pin connector to run full speed, as i have a 3 pin connector it wil only run at the lowest speed - i have a friend who claims to have done this, is it possible?

Not the best, and not even that good for overclocking (probably not good at all) but a budget build.

well as cheap as $500 sounds (yes that is sarcasm) - i have a fine pc cpu wise, and all i need is new RAM, which i think i may be able to get (someone on Driverheaven is selling some PC4000 stuff)

right then - is it possible to run the fan off a Molex connector for some added speed?

A fan will only run as fast as it can, the 4 pin won't increase the speed.
Simply time fopr a faster/high volume unit.

no - in the manual it says that if you have to have a 4-pin connector, or else the fan "...will run at the lowest speed", and i assume that the mobo just doesn't provide enough power, and that a molex might help make it go full speed!
