So i need to cut down on my desktop usage when doing basic tasks so i've decided to look at getting cheap laptop or netbook.

Now most of the laptops i've looked at come with Pentium M cpu's ranging from 1.3ghz all the way to 2ghz and usually have 1gb or ram or lower. The netbooks i've seen come with atom N455, N450 or even N270 cpu's and have at least 1gb ram.

Now i'm what to go for? Performance isn't a big issue here considering what i'll use them for e.g. web browsing, youtube, BBC iplayer and other video on demand, email use but of course the faster the better. Would a netbook be fine or would a laptop with the cpu listed above and upgraded ram to the max be a better option.

I do have a fairly small budget of under £200 as i don't want to spend lots on a laptop or netbook so thats a limiting factor on what i can get.

go the laptop route imho. you can beef it up in the long run if you get to a point and can be treated like a low end desktop if need be. i have had friends regret the purchase of their netbooks and wished they would have gotten a laptop instead. hope this helps

Would a slightly older laptop be just as good a slightly newer netbook?? I am no interested in spending lots on a laptop as i don't need a desktop replacement and i don't need something super fast but i do need something that isn't slow
