I'm looking for a budget card to upgrade my system so I can run BF2 at high settings. Any recommendations? I cant seem to find any threads on the topic.

A 6600GT around $100 would do you fine.

Here you go. It doesn't look like your mobo supports PCI-E, so I picked an AGP one for yeh.

Have fun!

I get 33 fps now using aquamark. How do I measure my fps when I'm playing BF2?

My 6800GT runs on high settings at about 60-80fps, depending on the map.

You also have a P4 OCed to 4.1 GHz and 2 Gigs of RAM.

I think you'd be better off looking for more RAM if you want to turn all the details up. You're 9600 should still be able to play the game at a decent rate at around 800x600.

So I should turn my resolution down and my graphics settings up?

I could play BF2 at high settings at 1024x768 with 1GB RAM with my 256MB 9800Pro just fine. The one time it really starts to chew is when artillery comes down.

Also with the 9800Pro you can flast it to an XT.

You wont be able to find a 256MB 6600GT for around $100, go with a 256MB 9800Pro and you'll be happy with that

You can find some for pretty cheap

He'll be fine with the 1GB as long as he doesnt run any programs in the background while he's playing. I was content with 30-40 fps while playing and racked up a good 5,000 points in a few months with a pretty basic system

yeah thats weird, i had a 6600gt, which ran faster at 1024x768 than it did at 800x600, with max settings, 4xaa and 8xaf.

Type in "renderer.drawfps 1" in your console while you're playing. This will display your FPS in the top left-hand corner.

Good luck!

Ok here's a new plan, I'm selling my current crap comp and buying a better one for a few hundred more, here are the specs:

That's a chaintech VNF4, an AMD athlon 64 3200+and an eVGA Geforce 6800gs 256 mb.

I need some recommendations on ram. I want to run 2x512 dual channel but I can't seem to find an affordable and compatible set. The list on chaintech's website is very short and specific. Could I use my kingston valueram?

Will this setup handle BF2 on high settings and is it all compatible?
