Did I buy. I have not bought a cooler in years. It is the IVB-E. They sent me the AM4 mount. Cost $5-6 bucks shipped from Germany.



The Macho has lots of fin surface to pull heat out of the pipes but no way to get rid of said heat. I'm a big fan of wind chill and if my puter was set up on wheels it would roll around. The fans are more important than the cooler itself. My proof? I have the only air cooled FX in the 5ghz 24/7 club.



The 8mm pipes on the 140P are interesting in that they have more flow and can react more quickly to sudden temperature changes, but the future is with vapor chambers. Unfortunately the only outfit making those is Coolermaster.
It seems it is out of stock , how much was it? assuming you bought off the amazon link?

I bought the IB-E in 2014 from Newegg for $75 (?). Don't really remember.

These coolers all look the same, as typically cool the same. I think the limit has been reached for this design. A case of reinventing the wheel in my opinion. Improvements can be made by making the cooler even taller and wider, but this isn't feasible due to weight and size restrictions.
I was going to post the same. Why do people even bother having a whole discussion and interest in a new heatsink, when it's just a rehash or what has already existed for more than a decade and any possible gains in efficiency are overwhelmingly likely to be within the 5% margin at most?

Im still rocking my venomous x for my 4790k which I have given to my sister. It's literally the longest owned heatsink I have and I actually wonder if the heatpipes still have their 'filling'. Thermalright is one of the most underrated companies and hope they can capture some of the big air market which is dominated by Noctua. Also hope they can change their product naming because its so confusing. Too many revisions why not just append a MK or something.

They used to make high end air coolers for GPU's -- I wish they would get back into that segment of the market.

Hard to call that even a segment of the market at this point, there are a whopping 2 high end aftermarket GPU coolers left, and both are pretty old designs at this point. Nobody has bothered to release something new in over half a decade.

I don't see this as being a very appealing "segment" for manufacturers to get (back) in to.

Yeah, it seems that market kind of died but I'd still want it to happen. They also had neat little (and not-so-little) gadgets that you could mount to the VRM, with heatpipes and serious heatsink. Alternatives for those don't exist at all anymore.

Yes they were definitely innovators. I do still have an unused gpu heat sink of theirs, but I don't have the bag of bits, got lost in a move somehow. Its art. It was supposed to go on my GTX 285. I left my 580 Matrix Platinum that I used since new up until last winter when I bought my 980 Classified. I left a triple slot card for a dual slot card. Much nicer. In these days of triple slot beasts, I'm sure they could rig something nice up that would blow away what everyone one is using. But to be fair, the cooler on my Classified is a beast. Makes my 970 ftw acx 2.0 look like a toy.. but it could still be improved upon. I'm no engineer but.. :D

not all of them cost the same

in 2012 you had to spend $90 for a NH D14.
in 2014 you could spend $80-70 maybe $70 for a HE01
in 2016 you could spend $ 50 on a Scythe Fuma
if they release this for $47 or so it would be an impressive cooler if it can clear most of the RAM and perform 95% like a high end cpu cooler

I'm a bit hyped for this cooler here because Thermalright chose to use their very old mounting system where you can customize the mounting pressure (it's that large knob you can see in the middle). That might help this cooler here beat the competition, like perhaps for people that got a bit unlucky with IHS shape of their CPU.

I'm currently battling a bit with an NH-D14 and a 2700X and I suspect more mounting pressure could change my results. The "thin layer" paste method produces much better temperatures on this 2700X here than the dot-method, which shouldn't be the case. That's why I got thinking about mounting pressure.

Well if you dont fear modding, lapping your IHS (Assuming a perfect-flat lapping) and using CLU/LM should make it better than anything in the market, even a mid range gpu with LM can match a high end CPU cooler (edit. I think the review compared with a TRUE copper)
