Choosing Headphones for my STX

803 Views 19 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Sheira
So i bought Xonar Essence STX soundcard and i been using with with Koss SB 40 Live headphones, which isnt bad product, but really old.

I was thinking my sound card would deserve something better. I have tried to do some research, but problem was most of the headphones are either focused on music/movies or games. I do both, gaming and heavy listening. I'd say 65% is music and movies, rest 35% is gaming.

Price isnt that important. I expect it to be comfortable (i spend lots of hours a day with my headphones on), durable (i mean the leather dont rip of too easily or something). I dont need microphone.

Any tips would be appreciated

Sennheiser hd550 would be a good place to start, the 595s also by Sennheiser are good too (more expensive as well)

The other thing to look at would be the ATH-AD700 from audio-technica.

I got the AD700s and they are freaking awesome! Clearest damn sound I ever heard from cans!

Now that we've established that fact, we can throw out the HD555 and the ATH-AD700 recommendations because they are not hip-hop oriented headphones.

Now I ask you, what is your budget?
Dont really have budget, my current headphones lasted for like 5 years, so i am expecting the same from new ones.

BTW. What are the styles, where HD555 and AD700 shine?

Classical. Anyway, you'd need a budget eh as there's headphones for any budget.

Yeah well, that depends... i am willing to spend a lot. Perhaps around 250-300$ would be max, maybe a bit more if neccessary.
Look into the beyerdynamic dt770s, denon d2000s, and the ultrasone HFI 780s.

The 595s use the same drivers as the 555s, neither of which does well with the genres you listed.

Cool thanks for recommmendation. Are they good for gaming/movies too? Are they comfortable for longterm usage? I like the design of the first 2 mentoined (beyerdynamic dt770s, denon d2000s)
BUMP. I'v read on various reviews, that dt700s are getting uncomfortable after few hours of usage. Anyone experienced the same?
Anyone knows whats the difference between 770 and 770 pro? Also dt 860 - they seem to be priced exactly same.
I've just ordered the Audio Technica ATH AD700's... heard they are pretty good for gaming and good for music, but could have improved bass.
I like it bassy. I mostly listen to hip-hop or heavy metal music, so let the banging of my head begin.
The DT770's are the most comfortable headphones on the planet... Don't know where you heard that they where uncomfortable...

Reviews. I guess it differs depending on head shape or so

Any idea whats the difference between regular DT770's ad DT770 Pro?
