Going by THIS REVIEW it looks like the 212 Evo beats the Optima by a couple of degrees. I can say from personal experience that the 212 is quite a good budget cooler. It keeps my i5-3570k well within safe temps at 4.7ghz.

what about if the 212 evo is $30 and the zalman optima is $10?

is the evo still worth $20 more than the zalman?

No, because the 212 is midrange at best. You buy for cost efficiency, and it's destroyed there if the $20 rebate holds up.

Some people swear by the 212 and others say it is 100% over-rated. Peronally I use the 212 in passing time between water coolers.

but 212 at $30 vs a competitor at $10? I don't think there's any reason for it~

Someone like me I would rather go with CM because I know they are awesome and tons of reviews nor do I ever send in rebates. That could be part of it. I have owned two CM 212s now. Still love them.

Most over-rated product on the market.
To be honest most people would not buy lower end air cooling w/ a 2011 chip
