[CNET] Teen Muziic founder: Shawn Fanning is my hero

David Nelson, the 15-year-old co-founder of the free site Muziic, idealizes Napster creator Shawn Fanning. But that doesn't mean he's going to run his business the same way.

Muziic, which launched two weeks ago, is a music service that piggybacks on YouTube. Nelson's software rounds up YouTube's music videos and enables users to sort and add them to playlists as if they were MP3s. There's no messing around with YouTube's search engine, videos, or advertisements.

There's little about Muziic that compares to Napster, the peer-to-peer service that helped demolish the traditional music business and usher in a new digital era. Yet, Napster in its original trailblazing form didn't last long. The site, some would argue, doomed itself by defying copyright law. For Muziic, Nelson has more modest goals and higher hopes.

Start with C.
Youtube blows. I can't make a music video and put it on Youtube. I redid my grandparent's wedding videos for their 50th anniversary. Obviously, there was no sound on video cameras back then, so I threw in some old music. I forget the exact name of it, but it was only a tiny part of the song - yet Youtube deleted it because it was copyrighted. Its a load of bullocks.

Same for RE5, I did a music video for it and they blocked it. I find it just stupid, especially when people are stealing MY videos and Youtube won't do jack about it.

Whilst i understand where you might be coming from with a programming point of view, C is pretty bastard language to learn when you're new to programming.

(Yes there are worse, but even then, it's not like C is a particuarly "friendly" language like python or java.)

You moan about putting copyrighted music onto videos and Youtube pulling it (they have to, because otherwise they'd get sued) but you don't like it when people steal your videos? You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Also, if you don't want people to steal your videos, put a watermark on them or something.

Type in any song name and 50 results will come up.

They either have to get rid of all copyrighted infringements, or none. You simply can't make a video without copyrighted stuff, unless it's a boring video you have recorded yourself, and don't go to youtube just to watch individual created videos as much as stuff like south park and what not.

Anyways, who goes to Teen Muziic? It's not even spelled right.
