Hoping to go SLI 470 (150 for used one)

Which intel mobo/cpu/memory? (not sure here, 650)

Which PSU? (not sure, but I want quality!!!)

If I wanted to WC down the road for the CPU and cards, which case should I get? (300 range)

Total Budget: Hoping to spend $1,000 on black friday-cryber monday $1300 tops

Is it just for gaming?

Go with an i5 2500k if it is. Something like the P8Z68 motherboard, there are a few flavours so just get one within your budget, around $140 is good.

memory, GSkill ripjaws 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24 timings.

PSU, well, For SLi 470's you're going to need around 750w - 800w. The 400 series weren't very power efficent. However, I'd sell your existing 470 and go with Xfire 6950's or something, in which case you'll need a 650w PSU.

Just for Bf3 and Aion, but I'm wondering if the upgrade is necessary.

I game at [email protected], and my eyes hurt. Was hoping to downgrade to [email protected] I just doubt I would hold up in BF3, but I doubt 85FPS constant would be doable with my current setup (don't want crap setting, but mediocre without AO and AA)

I thought of it this way, if I got a second 470 - I would need a new PSU, and I hate my case - so why not get a new one - then I figured I would get bottlenecked - so why not just switch to Intel & sell my current setup?

i5-2500k
P8Z68 V PRO
GSkill RipJaw X 1600Mhz+
Corsair AX850 (best to have some leg room)

Your CRT resolution is a bit high me thinks, i thought the max for that display was around 1920x 1440 at 80 Hz.

EDIT: nevermind i see that's it's supported resolution. Hmmm that could be a problem with modern titles.

Well, the recommended is [email protected], but the highest I can select is [email protected]

I don't know if it will be worth it to turn it down in games, I can't take advantage of the higher Hz if I don't get more frames per second right? (I doubt I would be above 60 anyway or even 30 constant for that matter in BF3 - guessing - )

Well 2048x1536 would be difficult even for SLI 570's since you may run into VRAM bottlenecks around there with modern titles.

I would recommend a newer LCD though in the 1080p region.

I suppose you're right, but the question would be IPS vs TN. and 120Hz is fully-optimized with 120FPS in modern titles. Thinking about saving money with a nice 75Hz LED TN LCD.

He can just turn down the resolution to 1600x1200 or something a little higher.

A 1080p LCD would be almost a direct downgrade for him.

It's personal preference to be honest, if you are indeed happy using you CRT for the foreseable future by all means save yourself the cash and keep it.

It doesn't look nice and it takes up a lot of room (plus, it's heavy).
If I could find an LCD that could get close, I would be interested!

I do need a desk and chair too, but I work at DirectBuy so I hope to get some amazing deals.

I'm just trying to set my priorities straight before I set a budget on hardware. The problem is picking a power supply first. I want something that can power two 470s and an i5-2500k (both GPUs and CPU will be OC'd). Can I get multiple suggestions, because I want to see what I can get for black friday/cyber monday. I think patience is key, because BF3 isn't even out yet. Which Intel board will be suggested for my future SLI setup?
