Many of you know I am going through hardware these days like crazy. It is really a pain to swap hardware in my currect case which I have sold and I am in between cases for the moment so there is a need for something and fast without spending a bunch of money. Form definitely follows function here as this will be a once-in-a-while use contraption.

Parts list:

2x 14" x 12" x 1/4 or something MDF

4 x 6" round wodden dowels I cut to length at Home Depot before I bought them to save money and building time at home.

11/32 drill bit

1/4-20 threaded inserts

panhead 1/4-20 x 3/4" machine screws

1x band clamp

Build time: about as long as a Digiorno pizza takes to bake.

Good enough for me

Paint and final pics tomr

I'm glad you guys like it. Today I have much to do. Lots of stuff to ship out including the mini p180 I love so dearly but it's time to move forward. I had to get a bigger case for my EP45-UD3LR and the mini p180 isnt big enough. This will be a nic makeshift home for it until my case gets here and is finished modding. Today I will markout the standoff locations for the board and test mount it. If it I am satisfied, a quick coat or 2 of black Plasti-Dip and it's done.
So my neightbors must love me. Nothing like the sound of power tools at 6:00 on a Wednesday morning.

Here's where we left off last night

Board in position

Cable management holes

All that is left to do is:
wait for Radioshack to open so I can go get some double height standoffs
stop by Frys and get some TIM
stop at Home Depot to grab some Plasti_dip
Wait for the mail. I have a TRUE-120 inbound.

Damn you radioshack. Why can't you be open yet?

So this morning I ran out the door at 7:30 to run to Home Depot for some Plasti Dip and stop by Frys for some mobo standoffs. When I was at HD I found the Holy Grail of modding: Red Plasti-Dip

Then when I was at Frys fulfilling my shopping list I saw some 3.5 floppy cages that I thought might come in handy somehow for the build. add to it some Arctic Silver Ceramique and some canned air and now so far the build is pushing $70. Almost the cost of a brand new premade HSPC tech station. But theirs doesn't have Red Plasti-Dip.

So far I have mounted the motherboard on the standoffs to make sure they are in the right place. (Only have to move 1.) I have the top and bottom panels covered in black and am doing the supports and 3.5 adapter things in red. I think it will look sweet. Enough babbling.

Plasti Dip always looks like ass whenit first goes on

Contraption to prop the support dowels on

Just as I got the first coat of red done, the damn camera died. I don't know if I have any batteries. Maybe my wife has some in her..........

Question: Why even bother with plasti-dip on MDF? Wouldn't it vibrate significantly less than steel? or maybe it's the complete opposite...hmm
Small update. New CPU and HSF came today. Looks like the first victims are going to be:

Q6600
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR
Corsair XMS2 4GB
EVGA GTS 250 SC

Got some things to finish up but will bid you adieu with a teaser shot:

K10...NOW do you get it?

So here we are.

The optical drive and hard drive caddies are just shy of being short enough to fit inside the structure.
Here is what I am thinking. Mount everything like so and figure out how to mount up the optical drive. Then put fans in the front and back to blow air over the PSU and across the HDDs.

Thoughts?
