Which is better - compression fittings or barbs/clamps?

Compression fittings, or barbs/clamps??

Obviously the compression fittings are more pricewise, but which one is safer / more secure? (safe as in leaks.)

Well its all up to you, but I feel that the standard barbs and Clamps have less parts to fail compared to compression fittings especially if you use 45 degree rotary fittings. 1/2 barbs and 7/16in ID tubing with clamps almost never leak. I haven't used Compression fittings but they do look nicer and probably on there own work just as good as the standard barbs but with some blocks you need to use 45 rotary fittings to use then and there in lies the fact there are more points of failure. I would say if you want to spend more money for the nicer fittings go for it. Just make sure you leak test everything.

Yea thats what I've read alot here... and it makes sense, but the only issue I see is that what IF the tubing decided to split because of the added force? Just a thought, and I hadn't really considered it until now.

I love the way the compression fittings look.. also I was mainly talking about the straight ones, not the elbows.
It's always tempting to go for the higher-tech higher-price option, but honestly, 1/2" barbs and 7/16" tubing with anything (I use worm drive hose clamps from the hardware store) have never leaked for me and I will continue to use them until they do leak.

Won't happen. Check out this stop plug that is 5/8" diameter...the OD of the actual tubing:

I bought a couple of compression fittings, but the threads on it were really short. So I went to barbs instead.
What 1/2" barbs does everyone here recommend then??
i like barbs w/o clamps
i seal it up with a little glue on the fittings

Glue??!!

I personally like compression fittings, they just feel more secure. It is impossible to pull tubing out of compression fittings
although 7/16 on 1/2" barbs looks nice and is dam strong. I do not suggest glue as the last person said though...

lol, two part epoxy actually, just a little on the ridge of the fittings. it does however mean if i ever change a hose i will have to get new fittings but I'm okay with that.

Bitspower compression fittings get my vote. I have tried Enzotech compression fittings and they are horrible, Bitspower is top of the line if you will not get a leak at the 45 degree elbow joint. Just my
, but this is clearly preference based. You are the builder so you get what you think will look best

Is it possible to do 7/16 tubing on 1/2 barbs with compression fittings? lol
Possibly, but they would need to have been designed for that size.

I prefer clampless 7/16, or 1/2 with worm drives
I go clamp-less with 7/16" over 1/2" barbs. The tubing is very snug on the barb and takes a lot of force to pull it off.

No because the outer diameter is different on the 7/16, so it wont work..but i do recommend 1/2" comp barbs, i love mine and they are very secure, never leaked on me.
Clamp-less 7/16 over 1/2" barb gets my vote as well....it's hard enough to get the tubing over fat boy barbs after its been dipped in scalding hot water.....no way it's coming off easily after it cools

i use these http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...ure=Primochill

with those i can literally pick up my whole watercooling gear all attached, fully loaded and move it around, swing it or what not and it will never leak
