Hi everyone

I have just reinstalled windows sucessfully. But now theres a problem, my computer keeps powering off for some unknown reason, theres no Blue screen or anything, it just restarts. I'm thinking something wrong with this budget psu, but then again its been powering this rig fine. This problem has only occured now, after I've reinstalled Vista.

Also, I installed Vista 64bit, everything recognises it as 64bit BUT, windows is only detecting 3.5gb ram. When I have 4x1 sticks.

Anyone know whats wrong for either of these?

that started happening to me before my psu blew, i would try trying a different psu or just buy a new one even its not the psu you cant go wrong with a new psu

you can try taking out all the ram and then starting with 1 stick reset the bios and then add your extra ram

hope it works out for ya

is your cpu overclocked ?

Yes, but it was already overclocked before I formatted.
When it shuts off open up the case and very carefully touch the psu. I had a psu where both fans connectors died at the same time and the whole computer started shutting down when it overheated.

My best advice about the ram issue is to reformat with only one stick in and without any overclocks on anything. Then once it is up and running (turn it off), add the other sticks. Then of course run prime95 to make sure that nothing has degraded and is giving you instability.
I am a bit confused here - is it completely shutting off the computer, THEN booting it up, or is it just silently rebooting your computer?

If the latter, it's most likely an unstable overclock, which could be caused by a dying PSU.
If it's the first one, then I am quite sure your PSU is somewhat dead. I haven't heard much of Acbel so I'm guessing it's that.

Try resetting to stock for now and running IBT. I want to know what happens when you put full load on your CPU.

If you're sure your CPU isn't overheating then its probably your PSU. As for the RAM issue, look in your BIOS for a setting named memory remap or something similar and enable it. That is most likely causing your problem.
@gonx - its silently rebooting. I recently set my oc back to stock. I gamed for about an hour and it didnt reboot. Also, if I touch around the back of the psu, where you plug in the cord, it sparks and turns off sometimes... should I get a new one?
it would be your psu like i was saying as mine did the same thing, there is a place in newmarket if your in auckland called xpcomputers www.xpcomputers.co.nz
give them a call they got a 1000W icute psu that is 80+% certed and has lifetime warranty for like $200-$250 its like the same price as most 600W psu plus your future proofed a bit

I am going to bet that it's your PSU then, if your OC worked earlier and it doesn't work now, then you've either been feeding your CPU too much voltage, making it unstable or your PSU is dying. I am going to bet it's on the PSU.

I suggest the Corsair 520 from that list, it's inexpensive and solid for the price

I'd say it's your clock. I had a stable clock of 3.2ghz (534x6) for the longest time, then I moved and my clock suddenly was not stable. I brought it down to 3ghz and it's held ever since.

Your problem sounds EXACTLY like mine.
