Computer unbearably slow

459 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  meticadpa
As you all know, my sig rig is a pretty decent computer. However, for the past couple weeks, its been running VERY slow at times, usually its OK. But its still slower than before. Any tips on how to restore it to its former glory? And yes, I've disabled all start up programs.

Defrag, virus/spyware scan, run something such as CCleaner.

DeFrag, ok I'll do that.
CCleaner, will this delete my history also? I don't want to delete it.

You can choose what it deletes, before you run it, take a look at the check list in the left pane in the CCLeaner window, you can untick History there and it will be left intact (make sure you do it for the relevant browser)

If all else fails reinstall Windows. May be the lazy approach but it always works.
I can't believe no one's said this yet...

Your hard drive could be the problem; they often tend to get very slow when they could be dying.

Run HDTune and see how fast your hard drive is transferring at.
