Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo
What?

That's a bit of a lightweight processor, and a Mobility 4650... I don't know about that. It would probably play Left 4 Dead 2 just because it's a Source game, and I don't know about WoW, but I don't know if it would play them well.

Edit: I guess the Mobility 4650 is an okay GPU, but I don't think this laptop will be very future-proof for mainstream gaming.
if this laptop cant play wow or any of those games is there one around the same price that can?
I have a 17" HP 8710w and I can play just about anything!

Only costs $700-$750 at TigerDirect or Compusa or Ebay.

Here's the link to a review and the specs: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3864

Here are some quick specs:
# 17" WUXGA (1920x1200) WVA anti-glare matte display
# Windows Vista Business
# 8X DVD Super Multi drive
# Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN WLAN
# Internal Bluetooth
Intel T9500 core 2 duo - 2.6ghz proc with 6mb of cache
Nvidia quadro 1600m video card (compare to an Nvidia 8700m gt: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...0M.8838.0.html)
160gb 7200rpm (free fall sensor) hard drive
4gb of ram
3yr next day onsite business warranty - because it's a business laptop that was made for 3d rendering etc.
Finger print scanner

Note: the video card can be overclocked 25%.

In 3dmark06 I've scored around 6k dmarks. In Windows 7 performance score I've scored:

Processor 6.2
Memory 5.9
Graphics 5.9
Gaming Graphics 5.3 (5.5 overclocked)
Primary Hard disk 5.2

The video card can even be upgraded to a 3700m which currently is the most powerful single gpu video card. Only costs $300-$350 on ebay. I've just ordered one and it beats even a gts 260, 8800gts, 9800gtx etc:http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.14962.0.html
I searched for nearly 2 months, returned two laptops to Newegg and Tiger and Ultimately decided on this one and I haven't looked back since. Thanks for reading my post.

That laptop will play WoW My ati HD 2300 plays wow just fine I play CSS all High Native Res and Tf2 in dx8 mode all on high just find with Native res and fear 2 so your GPU will just do fine.

I thought WoW was CPU dependent. Yeah I think it should play fine at that resolution. Any higher and you might need to get a different laptop that has more power in both CPU and GPU. Another user asked about a gaming around $1500 or less, so I pointed to my sig to see if he wants one.

What about GTX 280m? Gaming the 280m wins.

But I do like your upgrade path cost and possible performance. Post back when you do.

To OP the 4650m is comparable to 9700m GT. It should do fine. And unless you want to expand budget yours is as good as it will get. You do have other options as said but your choice is as good as is. Upgrading later? Different answer maybe.

The cost is pretty low and upgrading is pretty good, so go for it if you want to.

Oops I forgot about the gtx 280 which scores 18.4k in 3dmark05 vs. the 3700m's 15.4k according to: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.14962.0.html

If you notice the specs they both have 128 processors and other similar core/shader/mem speeds which leads me to wonder if the 3700m is the workstation version to the 280?...

Also you can buy the HP 8710w refurbished with the 3yrs warranty on either Ebay or Compusa. I bought mine refurbed back in July and I havent had a single problem! It can in just packaged like a new laptop with all the manuals etc, no dings, nics or anything. looks and smells new also

I've also confirmed the 3yr warranty with HP.

New this laptop sells for $1300-$1800 so pass it on and get em while you can

Oops I forgot the 280m. I honestly think the 3700m is the workstation version of the 280m with the same 128 procs and similiar mem/core/shader specs?
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.14962.0.html

also according to the link above the 280m scores 18.4k in 3dmark05 while the 3700m scores 15.4K

Also I bought mines new back in July refurbished to new standards with the 3yrs warranty for $750 and haven't experienced any problems. I've also confirmed the 3yrs warranty with HP.

The laptop came in a new HP box with all new manuals and everything. I has zero dings, nics etc. and looks like a new laptop. One of my best purchases ever!

Snatch em up while you can on either Ebay or Compusa.
280 55nm 3700 65nm, but yes I did notice the 128 SP's. And yes your value to performance equation is very nice.
what later upgrades can i look into for the future
Unless someone knows I am wrong? Not the GPU. For you say CPU HDD. You already have 4GB RAM so don't think you need but if you want RAM also.
so the overall conclusion is that its good for the price and can play wow? and maybe diablo 3...? or no diablo 3
According to this you should have no problem with Diablo 3, link.
Those are minimum requirements. It's okay to go slightly beyond system requirements to make it more playable and enjoyable.
ive been looking around and ive found another laptop for the same price and am wondering if this might be a better or worse choice...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220636
