Hey all. I currently have a 500GB HDD in my setup. I was thinking about going to a RAID 0 with dual Caviar Black 640GB drives. My question is whether I can keep my current OS and "ghost" it to the RAID setup. My Win7 is the upgrade media, so a fresh install is out of the question. Is this possible, or do I need to install Win7 from scratch in order to enable a RAID setup? Thanks, and +rep for helpful posts.
Just put your OS on the RAID not bother with ghosting as there is no need. I am running RAID and everything runs fine with me.
How would I go about doing that if I merely have the "upgrade media" for Win7? It was my understanding that the upgrade requires that a previous version of the OS is on the drive you are trying to upgrade...
You can install clean from just the upgrade media. Just use the upgrade media to install as usual, don't enter a product key, and uncheck "register automatically when online", then when Win7 loads up run the upgrade from the disk (while in Windows) and enter your key then.

This. I had to do it and it works perfect. And RAID0 is awesome! The speeds are great and I haven't had any problems. I have seagates but those caviar blacks are screamers.
