I'm browsing through a few sites and old messages on here, and basically what I'm looking to do is replace all the fans on my wc radiators.
Noise isn't a HUGE issue to me (within reason, but I don't need silent), but regardless, I was thinking of getting SY1225SL12SH (4 per radiator, push-pull setups) and a fan controller for them. I'm not too familiar with fan controllers, and since I can't really find any in stores locally to check them out in my hand in person I'm going to need some advice, please.
I figure if I am using a controller, I want to get fans that are powerful, if even a bit noisy, because I can always dial them down for normal use and then, using the controller, step them up if I am benchmarking or doing something very intensive.
I have 2 x 120.2 radiators in the case, and I'm thinking of doing a push-pull on both of them. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Read This and THIS to get an idea of what fans do what. Fan selection is greatly dependent on your rad too. Are those two thermochill PA120.2 rads you have? If so, 38mm aren't necessary.
If your rad has a high FPI (fin per inch) count, then you need strong fans with high static pressure, which is where 38mm fans come in to play. If you have a low FPI radiator, 25mm fans will be fine and are usually quieter. With that said, keep in mind that there isn't a radiator on the planet that doesn't respond better with more flow, but there is a point at which you start to see severely diminishing returns on cooling in relation to fan speed and noise.
Any fan 80cfm and higher will usually do well on most rads (assuming it's rated correctly!) and can be used with a fan controller. The scythe slipstreams you're looking at are bad on radiators and should be avoided. Check them out in the link I provided for more info...
Generally, fans that you see recommended often are:
38mm:
Panaflo
San Ace
Delta
Scythe Ultra Kaze (I personally despise these fans but others like them)
25mm:
Scythe S-Flex F or G
Yate Loon Medium or High speen
Zalman ZM-F3
I just bought a fan controller and it will arrive today: its the Sunbeam rheobus extreme.
I too dont have much info about fan controllers but I will let you know what I think about it as soon as I get it up and running=)
