Ever since the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo came out it has been a cheap and extremely popular CPU choise so much so that it has built up a reputation as being the best choise there is and this is not true anymore

While the 212 Evo was a decent option many years ago and even up to a few years ago today there are many options just as good if not better then the 212 Evo in the same price range
The simple truth is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is outdated with many coolers available today that just as good or better for the same or less money

So why is so many still buying and recommending the old 212 Evo?
The reason for that could be many dont know any better or that they simply cant be bothered to find better options

Whatever the reason is my consumer advice is dont just buy a 212 Evo as the first thing without looking around first because as said there are better coolers out there that cost the same or less

I am not saying the 212 Evo is bad what i am saying pure and simple is that there are better options out there many of which some of have probably never heard of before
Now i know that OCN has members from all over the world so some of these better options are not available in your area or its priced higher or whatever

So here is a list of coolers that you should look at instead

Yeah, 212 is not a 'bad' cooler .. but in today's market there are usually at least a couple better options at similar prices.

You don't have to imagine, it is reality. Are you rocking a Motorola Flip Phone, too? And can't imagine anything better than that flip phone?

The Ereboss looks like it has a lot more mass then most of the others and when it comes to air cooling more mass is better
At $33 it seems like a good deal and i have not heard or seen much of Raijintek before

Thats one of the reasons why so many pick the 212 Evo they know Cooler Master and they know the 212 Evo so they dont look beyond that and thats a shame

It seems like the Hyper 212 EVO is still a good pick among those coolers. Several of those mentioned in the earlier post are no longer available or have jumped in price...
Just to update this old thread. :)

I agree, 212 is mediocre at best and not often problematic when trying to use on newer systems. Sure, it is still probably better than CPU oem coolers, but like shilka said, with a little looking there are almost always better choices.

All this hate because one old CPU cooler ?

In the end is 20ºc cooler then stock heatsink for the R5 2600.

So, do the job.

Volvo Amazon .. haven't heard anything about them in donkey's years .. but no, comparing 212 to a new CPU cooler is nothing at all like comparing a 1956-1970 car to a new car. Way more technological improvement even between a 10-15 year old car and a brand new one than a 10 year old CPU cooler and a new one.

Both 10 year old CPU cooler and new CPU cooler have:
Same basic aluminum fins design and construction
Same basic heatpipe design and construction
Same base design and construction
Same basic mount design and construction with only the newer mounting bolt patterns added
Same basic fan design .. maybe different color and foo-foo RGB bling added

That is very different than a 40ish year old car compared to new one
New car has:
Disc brakes versus old drum brakes (probably ABS braking too
Computer designed and built engines computer controlled
vs hand made engines with carbs and mech. dist.
Electric door locks / keyless entry vs key
Electric window vs cranks
Much more advanced suspensions vs old spring an shock
Much nicer interiors
Much better radial tires on alloy rims vs old belted tires
Sorry, but cooler tech now is almost exactly what it was 10 years ago .. now if we go back 15 or 20 years, then there is a big difference, like car difference. ;)

20c cooler on a CPU rated for 65-75c (not sure exactly what safe limit is for R5 2600) is a lot if CPU is hitting that 65-75c .. 20c is a lot cooler regardless of what CPU's safe operating max temp is. Now if it was 5c or 6c cooler then yeah, it's wouldn't be as much of a difference.

But the difference between how 212 cooler (and some other very low cost coolers) mount can make a big difference. 212 was never a great cooler, but it was (and is) a decent low cost cooler readily available in many places. The difference is now there are usually at least a couple better options costing about the same or less with similar or better cooling ability and having better mounting system.

Got a True Spirit 140 for 41.99 from Newegg.

212 did so well because it was a cheap HDT cooler. The mounting system doesn't age well becomes a real PITA, all the while having mediocre mounting pressure that allows it to twist with ease.

I guess your bad choice of comparisons could be considered a joke. But at the end of the day it was simply a very bad choice for comparison that overpowers any chance of it coming across as a joke. :helpingha

Indeed, the mount was/is marginal at best.

Link please, because when I looked on newegg.com for 'True Spirit 140' I find nothing .. also nothing on Amazon.com and NansGamingGear only has TRUE Spirit 140 Power showing.

Strange, when I try our link I get, "Sorry, We can't find this Item. Please check your Item#."

Had to go incognito and use Tor browser to see TRUE Spirit 140 Direct cooler. It is indeed a nice cooler and I'm using one myself in one of my systems.
Link works fine for me
