hey, im gettin a 7900gs fer christmas, and i was wondering if i should get the zalman vf900, or is the stock cooler good

i remounted the stock with as5 and have had pretty good results.

Just an FYI, but the eVGA ones already come with some sort of silver grease that resembles AS5. It isn't AS5, but it looks fairly close.

A VF900 will be quieter. I'll be the first to admit that the stock fan is loud as hell.

The Stock cooler isnt bad for stock use. However if you wish to overclock it then the VF-900 comes very reccomended.

i installed the vf900 as well as useing the as5 on my 7600gt .
my temps went down 9 degrees .
idle now at 38-40 ,
load at 46-48 .
overclocked 654 core ,
860 memory .
thats not to bad , im thinkin .

im not sure if you are refereing to me ?
if you are , that is close to my max overclock . there MAY be a small bit more there . she did freeze at 670 core . so i left well enough alone .
as it is there now thats my temps , and oc .

check out the vantec iceberq 6; i'm using it with a 1.5v volt modd'd 7900Gt and it's perfect. i looked at the zalman coolers as well but most reviews placed the iceberq 6 ahead of the zalmans. the main advantage to the vantec was that it exhausts the heat out the back of the case.

also, it's only about 20 to 30 dollars ... depending on where you get it.

i'd also recommend researching the arctic cooling NV Silencer series ... another cooler which reviews/tests better than the zalmans and is also much more affordable; don't know if arctic cooling makes one for your card, though.
