No biggie. It was inevitable.
Given the size of the Obsidian 900D case they knew people were going to try their damnedest to fill it up with every device they could fit in them.
Somebody needs to make a PSU to push all those devices, so why not do it themselves?
I think everybody knew it would happen. I just didn't think it would take so long to do so.
The question now is, who is actually going to make this new power supply to Corsair's specs?
What kind of build would actually require a 1500w PSU? Really.

Four OCd titans with a 3960x at about 7ghz?

Benching 3-4 fermi, GK110, Tahiti, etc. cards with a high clocked gulfie or SB-E usually means using two PSUs.
I want to see this.

How this PSU from Corsair will perform compared the the SuperNOVA 1500 from EVGA.
Nobody needs this.. But it will be funny to sell this to all the extreme noobs

....

To the average user it may not be worth it but to benchers who want to push things to the extreme it certainly worth it.

Well those who need this are minority but I can see some uses for such a PSU. Like, for example, powering your phase change unit from the same PSU as the rest of your rig.

Iirc, a GTX 580 pulls over 1kW when heavily overclocked. Not too hard to get up there with four of them.

Find me a GTX 580 that pulls 1000 watts and I'll chew on my fake leather couch when I get home :

Just kidding... but really, that would be a kick-butt thing to see. This is obviously for Tri-Quad setups with elaborate cooling/peripherals/overclocks. Not bad to see a unit this powerful, as we've sort of hitting an efficiency plateau.

It's gonna take me a while to find it. I know I saw a news post with K|NGP|N using a 1kW PSU for each 580.

Well it seems that the one world record post that I was looking for eluded me in my search. This was the best one I could find with him using four PSUs.

how about a pc with amd 9590 cpu with quad gtx 480?
Funny how cpu/gpu manufacturers are pushing for lower power draw on all their components, yet psu suppliers are pushing for higher and higher

i do see how extreme benchers would buy this though.

that said, i would still rather buy an evga 1300w g2 supernova or even the 1500 classified(that wasnt that great) than paying for some corsair link garbage ever again.

this will replace my nuclear reactor then, spot on
I can pull up tp 1000W but if the 1500W's fan doesn't kick on till then, then thats a reason to oversize to 1500W

This guy is thinking along the same lines as I am.
If this PSU means the fan won't kick in under the load I intend to put on it, this would definitely make me consider it.
