It's not know for it's OCing capabilities. I'm assuming your asking for someone else though since you already have a nice cpu. If so, then it depends on their price bracket and what kind of performance they're expecting. I'm assuming your from the UK, but for example in the states, that Q8400 goes for $167.99 on newegg.com. The Q9550 goes for $179.99 at microcenter. In that casethe Q8400 is not a good deal at all. Hope this helps.

A lot of people recommend the Q6600 over the Q8400.

A Q6600 can be had for very cheap second hand.

It's kind of hit and miss with the Q6600s. G0s usually OC pretty well, but others are not so great. Gaming is fine even on stock clocks. Overall, it's a great choice.

my Q6600 is at 3.0 ghz at lower than stock voltage

For gaming, it works perfectly fine. The highest I've pushed the cpu to is about 3.6 ghz, but I've never really had to.

I have an 8400 and got it to 3.2ghz easily but any higher and it becomes hard, excellent cpu for video encoding and I can play all my games with it. If you can get it cheap then i would deffinitly get it.

No sense in spending money on 775 when 1136 can be had for the same price.
