It's not know for it's OCing capabilities. I'm assuming your asking for someone else though since you already have a nice cpu. If so, then it depends on their price bracket and what kind of performance they're expecting. I'm assuming your from the UK, but for example in the states, that Q8400 goes for $167.99 on newegg.com. The Q9550 goes for $179.99 at microcenter. In that casethe Q8400 is not a good deal at all. Hope this helps.
I have an 8400 and got it to 3.2ghz easily but any higher and it becomes hard, excellent cpu for video encoding and I can play all my games with it. If you can get it cheap then i would deffinitly get it.
oo now im thinking everything i just said except a gtx260 sc as they are cheap as chips at the moment and it can still pretty much run everything + if anything dont run maxed out ill just play it on my main rig
