Hi everyone,

I've overclocked my cpu to 2500MHz but I just want to understand what
CPU-Z is showing in terms of CPU
RAM.
It shows me CPU/5 but how do I know if it's a ratio of 1:1 , 5:5, 6:5 or whatever?

Can someone help me by clarifying this in regards to my CPUZ results because I've been reading different explanations about CPU
RAM on different web sites and I just can't get it when I look at my result.

My RAM is 800MHz stock.

dont worry about dram:cpu right now your ram is still at the same ratio as same as before the OC because you didnt lower the ratio so your ram now 25% OC just as your processor.

ram is at 2500mhz and ram 500 mhz 2500/500= 5 so every 5 cycles your cpus does your ram only does one cycle

Right now as long as all your gear is stable esp the memory going at 1000 mhz then right now your ratios is as good as it can get.

Also when they means by a ratio 1:1 or as I know it unless im wrong it the rated speed of the ram and fsb on thier defult speeds for example fsb goes 200mhz and ram 400mhz (800mhz since ddr) when you oc your fsb to 250mhz your memory will go to 500mhz (1000mhz since ddr) so it still at a 1:1 ratio.......
the only way you can get a different ratio is if you yourself go into bios or some program and change that ratio or change the speed of the ram.

ok so then the ratio right now is at 5:5 ?

for amds divide the cpu speed by the divider to determine ram speed
you cpu is 2500/5 = 500
if you ram speed is twice the bus speed then you are running 1:1

ok thanks a lot for the infos, it's really helping a lot

Another thing I've been wondering. Is there any room to lower the latency and such? What should I try?

your rams stock timing are 4-4-4-12
you have them at 5-6-5-18

lowering your ram settings and/or upping raw speed will reduce latencies
example .. c4 would have lower latencies than c5
1000mhz would have lower latencies than 800mhz at the same timings

i'd set the ram to the stock 4-4-4-12 and see how far you can get it ... you may have to give the voltage a bump
once you get there set ram to something like 5-5-5-15 than start upping it and doing benches .. see how far it goes

see what works best for you and go with it

But 4-4-4-12 is faster than 5-5-5-15 right?
So I should start with 5-5-5-15 and make sure it doesn't crash and then try
4-4-4-12 ?

yea, at the same mem speed 4-4-4 will give you more bandwidth and lower latencies than 5-5-5

personally, i'd start with the stock 4-4-4-12 and see how far it'll go till you get the highest stable clock .. do some benches
you already know the ram will run at 500 at 5-6-5-18.. i'd tighten the timings (5-5-5-15 is a good place to start) then do like you did before and compare them

450 at 4-4-4-12 may give you more bandwidth than 500 at 5-5-5-15

see what works best and use it

ok first I tried 5-5-5-15 and everything was fine.

then I tried 4-4-4-12 and it wouldn't boot so I raised the ram voltage to 2.20 and it still wouldn't boot so I lowered the fsb until it would boot. I was able to boot with a fsb of 220 and 4-4-4-12 timings.

I tested it with 3dmark2006 and got a lower score than with a setting of fsb 250 and timings at 5-5-5-15.
I also tried 4-5-5-12 and 5-5-5-12 and it would crash.

I think I will leave it at that because it looks like this is the highest I can go without crashing unless someone has an idea of something else I should try.

Also I forgot to mention that my cpu fan is stock and on load my cpu temp goes up to 50 Celcius.

Have you dropped a divider yet? Set it to 667 and overclock that some more, and set the timings back to stock
