It's all a matter of operations per clock cycle. Most Intel chips do 6, with the mobile chips scoring a little higher. Most Athlon chips do 9 or 10.

Usually the GHz performance ratio between AMD and Intel is 3:2.
For example, a 3 GHz Intel processor will roughly equal that of a 2 GHz AMD processor, although for the specifics it really depends on the model.

I don't know about 612 kb L2 cache (did you meant to type 512?)...

Anyways.... the Athlon will win the match. However, it would also depend on what kind of Athlon it would be... like if it's one of the older versions of Athlons (32-bit), then the benchies may come out to be about the same.

However, from the surface point of view, it seems that the Athlon is more likely to win the match w/ the Celeron.

2.5GHz Athlon x 1.5 (AMD-Pentium conversion factor) = 3.75GHz Pentium 4

That Athlon is equivilent to a 3.75 GHz P4. It blows any Celly away.
