CPU Liquid cooling

Hi,

I am building a new PC and I have picked out some pretty high end stuff and I also want to overclock it. So I am considering liquid cooling. My processor is the core i7 920 and I have a few questions.

Are water cooling kits universal? I have this one in mind.
Is it safe? Will it kill my computer if it leaks?
Will my system really need it?
Will it make a noticeable difference compared to air cooling?

Thanks!

Thanks for input but I have never done water cooling before so i don't want to do a totally custom LC system :S.

Is there any kits you would recommend?

1)Don't go with a kit. Order your parts seperately. Way better. Follow the advise of the first post.
2) If the WC system leaks and gets on your hardware..yes it could kill it.
3) Are you going to overclock like crazy? If not...probably not.
4) That thermaltake kit is worse than good air cooling, a high end water cooling loop is much better than the best air cooling.

Check this page at Petra's for some good starter kits. They aren't pre-built, but they are quality parts that are great to start start with.

Frankly, if you're not prepared to plumb it yourself you shouldn't consider WC.

Please don't throw a cheap pre-made kit on an i7, I will cry myself to sleep every night...

I plan to overclock it to around 4.0GHz (Default being 2.66GHz)

Is that ground for watercooling?

@Juggalo2345
Thanks for all your links! I will build a custom water cooling kit
(if I need it)

I highly suggest to do a custom setup. You will get better performance

So even overclocking it to 4.0GHz will I be ok with air?

most likely... you will get to 3.8Ghz w/ standard volts, no problem with good air. The next little bump isn't guaranteed, even with water.

my $.02; its not really worth it unless your planning to throw the gpu in there as well.

Another question, can you afford the monetary risk if it does leak and fry your $1000 computer?

Since I went water, I've not looked back... But, don't get that kit. It's not very good at all. Look at Jab-tech, or Petras. They have awesome stuff. What Juggalo wrote down is prettymuch spot on. The GTZ is a VERY good block.

Its actually a $1900 computer. I think I will stick to 3.8GHz and spring for an extra fan

Juggalo has a recommended a great loop setup. You will never ever get a leak if you leak test and use clamps.
Just one last question. Don't other factors affect heat? Like its got a lot of high end stuff that i'm sure gets pretty hot.

Sorry i'm asking so many questions. this is my first high end gaming rig. I have never had a high end system so I never worried about heat issues.
Well your water temperatures can't go below ambient so if your case is hot, say at 30C, your temps won't go below that.
If you get the Noctua cooler for 1366 mentioned you should be just fine assuming that your case has proper airflow
My case has two 120mm fans and 2 ports. I will get two more fans, Will that be sufficient?
