CPU OR GPU folding?

1184 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Drake.L
Hello guys, I want to ask if I should use my CPU or my GPU to fold (sig rig). I've read that I would need to force the gpu in order to fold on the 5770. What're your thoughts?

Folding with both shouldn't decrease PPD for either (not significantly, at least).
The thing is that I have to force my gpu in order to fold with it. I don't know how to force it though.

Idk if this is your problem, but does it help?

Use this flag for the GPU client:
-forcegpu ati_r700

And the 5770 will fold just fine

Where do I put that flag?

Make a shortcut to your [email protected], rightclick and go to properties, and at the end of the "Target" field, just stick in the flag.
both. ofcourse you would need to setup a virtual machine to run fold with the cpu and get decent ppd.
No need to force anything.
Search in the forums for notfred's and run the typical GPU client with the instructions you'll find in the [email protected] download site.
Set team to 37726 in both clients and good luck.
Sorry to revive this thread but, when i use the -forcegpu ati_r700 flag in the end of the target section , it says this "The name "C:\\Program Files(x86)\\[email protected]\\[email protected]\\[email protected]"-forcegpu' specified in the target box in not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct.

What do I do??
You have to put a space before the tag.

Just a suggestion, if you really want to see some points go for your cpu folding either by dual booting with something like linux mint(my suggestion) which at 3.8ghz should get you about 7k-9k ppd. OR try this http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...-0-8-core.html
Nolonger: I will try that tomorrow afternoon as m on my iPod right now

Lemans81: My sig rig isn't a dedicated folding rig and I'm not a dedicated folder, but I leave on the CPU client whenever I'm on, since every little bit counts.
Thanks nolonger, the space helped fix it.
