Hey guys, I am most likely going to get this:

I was wondering how the sensor works, where exactly do i put it?

Don't get it, just use software. It would not be accurate because it wouldn't be using the internal sensor on the CPU.

I agree. It's not worth the price.

With that, the most accurate temperatures you could get would be to put the sensor between the heatsink and the CPU. Even still, this would get you inaccurate temperatures, as well as break the seal between the CPU and the TIM, increasing the CPU temperature. As stated above, just use software. If you really want something in the front of your PC, get a nice fan controller.
Ok, thanks for that, I guess I won't be getting it, thanks! Saves me 10$.
You probably allready know this... but just in case... real temp and core temp will display in you system tray.
I know, I was just wondering, it looked cool.

Ya... and you got me thinking... in would be nice to have a temp display that you could see while you had games in full screen.

Ya, or to just look over at, and see, oh its 27C in there. lol
But it could be useful to gauge ambient case temps, or to sandwich between two dual-slot cards in SLI...

Yeah, it has some uses for sure, its just not an accurate measue of CPU temps. If you really want your temps displayed that badly there are other ways. You just need to mod a small LCD module in your case and have it display Coretemp or a similar program. Then you can also have it displaying other things as well. Its more work and more money but it would be P-I-M-P-N-E-S-S!

I use one for the water temperature in my loop (see pic),
but I have heard of this being done before.

The idea was to drill a hole in the base and fill it with thermal grease and the temperature probe .
But I don't think this would be possible with many modern heatpipe heatsinks.

I was going to order some of the units mentioned by the OP.

But I just noticed... they do not read sub-zero... no good to monitor my chilled water temps.

Does anyone know of some good ones to read sub-zero temps?
What you're looking for is a software controlled LCD to display CPU (or other) temperatures.

Ya... or display in Windows like SpeedFan or HWMonitor would be very cool. I know Koolance has this:

But the LCD readout would be nice/cheaper.... something that would display a reading taken from this sensor:

My Case came with one, I just used electric tape to stick it to one of my cooler's fins
