When setting my clocks, my cpuz states I have a ratio of 4/6... I've tried lowering my memory to 225Mhz, but it seems to run slower. I have read a lot about having a higher memory ration than the cpu being better. Opinions on whether this is true?<br><br>
and second: Is there a particular setting I should stick with on my D 920?<br><br>
Currently set at 1120/860... Thanks all!

your RAM can only use data as fast as it can be fed data by the processor.

With an nForce + Intel, the system will be running at different ratios than you've seen before. I know that the RAM shows at 133mhz for DDR2 533, 166mhz for DDR2 667 and 200mhz for DDR2 800 so watch out when you change the timings because they're never shown correctly under CPU-Z.<br><br>
So a 1:1 ratio will be 200:100. I couldn't tell you next because I have not paid any more attention to an nForce MoBo, nor I ever will.

Hmmm, so you're saying cpuz may be interpreting wrong, or the motherboard/bios is interpreting incorrectly? Sorry, confusing, I got married. Nothing makes sense. j/k

The benefit of having a higher Mem clock is so that you can keep a 1:1 ratio and lowerest possible timings. For instance take my situation a while back when I was in the market for good ocing RAM.<br>
I needed DDR400 but was shopping for DDR500. The reason for this was so that I had head room for OCing. At stock everything is at 200Mhz but keep in mind that my RAM could go up to 250 before ever having to tweak it at all. When my OC hits 250Mhz FSB then I am running at a 1:1 ratio. IMO 1:1 is the best as it is like your rig is running full steam on all cylinders.

so if I'm running 4:6, is it hindering my performance at all? with a cpu clokc of 280, my mem is currently running at 430... I have no idea how to change my dividers, and my timings are at 4-3-3-4-6 (stock rating for my mem is 4-4-4-12-15)

If your RAM is running faster than your CPU then there is no real gain. But if your CPU is running higher than your RAM then you will see the performance of your CPU's OC not RAM. Your RAM in this case is underclocked then increased using the FSB.<br><br>
Lets say that your CPU can safely reach 250FSB and be stable without anything added no fans or voltage. Your RAM on the otherhand can only go up to 215Mhz FSB before it becomes unstable. So now what you need to do is go set your default RAM clock from (in my case) 200 to 166, this will allow me an extra 36Mhz of head room on my RAM. That 36Mhz + the 15 the rig was already OCed will allow my PC to clock up to 251 and remain stable. Your CPU clock will be 251Mhz FSB and your RAM would be at its max speen of 215Mhz due to the underclocking in the first place. Onbiously it would be better to have both you CPU and RAM running at 250Mhz so this is were a high RAM ratio comes in.<br><br>
If your Ram is stock at 250Mhz and your CPU is stock at 200 but can safely reach 250Mhz FSB and remain stable then you can OC to 250 before having to do any tweaking. Even though the RAM runs at 250 the MB clocks it down to 200 by default so it is already underclocked, this is why it can go to 250 before playing with timmings and voltages. But since the MB underclocks it to default speeds there is no real gain in the higher RAM ratio speed.

Okay, that helps. Let me get this right... Let's say I'm running 280 cpu, and 430 ram, I can clock down my ram to lets say 280(560Mhz rating) and my oc will be more stable. Wow, I guess I need to read up some more on this to understand it a little better. Thanks for the help guys... +1rep for the equation master, thanks a lot.<br><br>
Setting my ram at 560 and my fsb at 1120 will actually run. Dumb question, but I'm still on the confusing side of the fence...

Ok if your CPU is at 280Mhz is that stock? Also what is your RAM speed in the BIOS. My PC3200 shows up as 200 so its ddr400. I will Edit this post after you answer.<br><br>
Your BIOS is most like very similar to mine being an Asus, is it American Megatrends?

phoenix bios<br>
200 for cpu stock<br>
233 for ram stock, well its the xms 2 5400 675 mhz, so I guess 237.5

Ok then that means that your RAM <i>can</i> run faster than your CPU at stock this is good. In your Bios you can crank your CPU speed up 237Mhz before even looking at changing timmings or the divider on the RAM.<br><br>
So if your CPU will do 237Mhz FSB with the cooling you have then go right ahead and at that point you will have a 1:1 divder. Now if you want to get higher than 237 to say 250+ then you may need to play with RAM timmings and voltages on the CPU and maybe RAM. Make sure that you have proper cooling and take your time.<br><br>
If I have your hardware correct than you will be able to get to 3.3 before any RAM adjustment need to be made. Set your RAM at stock and start OCing your CPU till you become unstable, if you are below 237Mhz then it is your CPU limiting your OC and you will need to up your CPU voltage. If you hit like 245 then you will need to loosing timmings a little bit and up your CPU voltage. Keep in ming when upping voltages do it in the smallest incriments.

currently I'm at 3.920Ghz... Voltage is set at 1.375 for the cpu, and the vdimm is at 2.1, the highest my board allows. I am currently utilizing the cpu/mem tweaker, where I can alter both. You are correct, at 3.29, I had to screw with all the other options to get it to go higher. Guess I gotta tweak with it some more. Also, my board is ****e, and is supposedly known for crashing at 250Mhz front side bus...

So if you have a 280Mhz FSB from 200 then thats a great OC. You had to set a divider or no, my G.skill can run up to 300Mhz before I need a divider. It seems like my CPU maxes out before my RAM lol.

I think my board automatically sets the divider. 860 is the highest it will let me set my mem at this current fsb setting. But, If I were to set it at cpu tweaker option, the one without the manual mem tuning, it shows down where the mem speed is displayed that its target speed is 933Mhz for the ram... I guess thats why it was so confusing for me... Time to get the p5b and get a Conroe...New school water cooling too, I finally hit 38C under load with the old school setup I have now...<br />

Since you have same brand mobo, and I was wrong, I have American Megatrends bios too, where is the option to set ram divider, what should I set it at, and what will the option be labeled as? I really appreciate the great instructions, wish I has contacted the right person 10 days ago when I first started tweaking my first pc...<br />

Edit Update: Tried exactly what you said, set the memory down to 560, and even the windows startup seems faster. Don't know why, but maybe it's just psychological. Will update my 1m superpi score to see difference, and check temps too... I love this forum.<br />

I have a AMI BIOS not phenix although the option to set the divide is in the same place as the CPU FSB cofigurer. If there is a place where you can manually sellect your RAMs default speed then that is where you set a divider.<br />

In my case I go to the "Advanced" tab and go to where I set the FSB Mhz speed. I set my FSB speed option to manual, and my RAM speed to its default 200mhz. Now at this point everything would be stock... CPU is at 200Mhz x14 and RAM is at 200Mhz x2 (DDR400). Now I up my FSB at 5mhz incriments and because I set my RAM at 200 my CPU and RAM will OC at a 1:1divider all the way up till I manually set my RAM default speed down to 166.<br />

I hope that I am clear enough... it all makes sense in my head but that doesn't mean it makes sense lol. Just look for a place to set your RAM speed and set it to 233 or 237 which ever is the stock spd<br />

EDIT: I just looked at your profile and noticed that you use water to cool right? Also I noticed your idle temps are at 27C...thats my load temps on air in a 73*F room. Ijust thought it was funny
