What do you guys think?

Recommend me a mobo that won't hurt the wallet too much

Torn between:

DDR3 1333 vs DDR3 1600
and
7-7-7-21 vs 8-8-8-21

Is the price difference worth it?

Thanks in advance.

*EDIT* Is the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R any good? If so I may take advantage of the Fry's combo deal
*EDIT* sold out

My ASRock P55 Extreme is a nice board. I am very pleased with it so far. It allows you to use your 775 socket cooler and has tons of OC feature (looks and acts like a higher priced board). I went with the gskill 1600 9-9-9-24 i think? I read that the biggest gains RAm wise came from tighter settings rather than higher speeds. google around and you'll find it.

I'd go for the fry's deal and they usually have some 4gb kit of ram on sale for around $90. The last couple of days they've had some good deals.

Deff DDR3 1600 or at least ram that can be overclocked to 1600 if not more.
7-7-7-21 vs 8-8-8-21
And for ram what ever set of ram you can get for the least go with if ur adding up to the same ammount as long as you can OC them your set.

Ouch, the Fry's near me is completely out of stock of that Gigabyte board... There goes that plan.

Thanks for all the input.

Any other motherboard suggestions? (I probably will NOT be running Crossfire or SLI)

The DDR3 1333 kit with 7-7-7-21 timings can probably overclock to 1600 with 8-8-8-21 so it doesn't really matter which one you pick, unless you pick a 1600 kit with 7-7-7-21 timings.

Good call. But my question is this: Would everyday tasks and/or gaming be affected by the speed and timing benefits?

Usually Intels benefit more from the higher speed, I'd say 1600 is the sweet spot.

I wouldn't go with the velociraptor. You can get the same performance for less by short stroking a seagate 1.5tb HD. I'll get the link in a minute.

Or, you can get a couple cheaper 500gb HD's and put them in Raid-0

Actually, I already have the Velociraptor from a previous build

Still seeking P55 mobo suggestions!

Ah, I see. It just looked like you were about to purchase one from the link.

This 2x2Gb DDR3 1866Mhz memory is ONE DOLLAR more than this 2x2Gb DDR3 1600Mhz ram.

Right now, that's a STEAL and you can OC that 1866Mhz ram to the moon! (well, mayby 2000Mhz+)

Pay the extra dollar to get the extra 166mhz more power, I think it's worth it.

I second this
I have those 1866Mhz ripjaws, mine do 2000Mhz easily. Nice ram

The Gigabyte UD3R is nice if you intend to save some money.

Just picked up a 4GB kit of G.Skill ECO Series DDR3 1600 7-8-7-24 1.35v

Needed something low-profile as I'm working with mATX and likely won't be able to fit tall heat spreaders under most HSF setups.
I'm quite eager to play with the particular kit I got...CAS 7 1600MHz should OC quite well, and stay well under the voltage limitations needed for an i5 setup

I'm gonna probably say mild overclock - lots of gaming.

Those Ripjaws do look good at that price.

Anyone know if the EVGA P55 boards are decent?

I think that my evga board is great, probably the best mb that I have ever owned. I just went to my fry's earlier and they had a bunch of those gigabyte mb in stock, to bad yours doesn't

I'm really impressed with MSI's P55 series of mobos. MSI turned the corner with this series of mobos for the i5/i7 IMO. I love my GD-80 easily the best mobo I've ever owned.

I'm still a big fan of Asus mobo! I haven't had a chance to play with any Gigabyte boards. I hear they're pretty solid.
