To answer you, yes. It will be tri-fire (3x 48701gb)

edit: you won't see too much increase over the 4870x2, but x4 is even worse than the jump to x3.

I'm confused by what you mean that the 4core is worse than 3? Thanks for gettng back to me so quick... am consideing building an i7 965 on asus extreme ii mother board with 6gb ddr2 pc3-2000 soon.

Will fill in my details when I have the time.

He means it scales worse. For example, in X game on max settings:

1x 48701GB gets 30FPS
2x 48701GB gets 55FPS
3x 48701GB gets 75FPS
4x 48701GB gets 85FPS

As you add more GPUs, the added benefit is less than when you added one to your single GPU, it goes from +25fps adding one, +20 fps adding another, and +10fps adding the fourth one.

These are hypothetical comparisons, but the real life results do indeed coincide with the example.
