Samsung shows off face-melting speed of SSD RAID

So we all know that SSD drives are fast, but how do those numbers translate into the real world? And what would happen if you had unlimited funds and wanted to build a 24-unit SSD RAID array to see exactly what they can do?

Samsung did exactly that, and came up with some astounding numbers:

* Microsoft Office opens in 0.5 seconds.
* 53 programs take 18 seconds to start
* Entire system can be defragged in about 3 seconds

Now of course, the price to build something like this is prohibitive, but the important thing is that Samsung has proven that it's possible, and pretty damn cool if you can set it. Bye-bye mechanical drives.

System Specs From Video:

24x256GB= 6TB, though it's RAID 0 so it's only 256GB capacity.

Always quick to correct me duckie
. Yes, TB is what I meant, sorry. And RAID 0 does not take away from capacity like RAID 1 does so all 6TB are usable.

Now i know what i want when i win the lottery tomorrow.. or next week.. maybe next month
Hmm...Something else to add on my list of "things to buy when I win the lottery."

i really really want to setup a raid setup with some SSDs though.....

That would be *****in....

It's only about $14,000 in SSDs....

That's more than my car.....
Thats one of the sexiest setups I've seen in a while. I can't wait till SSD's become mainstream. I'd take 4 in RAID 0 please...
Extremely annoying but very cool.

Kind of shows up my 4 HDD RAID0 array just a little.... 10x the speed...
