Actually I'm fairly certain it's system RAM usage.

There's no way to see vram usage with AMD cards in Vista/7 as the value is not exposed through any API. I.E. there's no way the game could be presenting it w/an AMD card because it has no way of knowing.

Another 'sign' that it's not vram usage is that it's > than your vram capacity, which you will never see in Vista/7 even w/a nVidia card (which do expose vram usage via the driver API).

I'm almost positive this is not the case.

WDDM allows video memory to be virtualized and paged out to system RAM.

Also, even if no API can read the card or drivers to get a firm idea of how much video memory is being used, the game engine itself should be able to figure out what it's sending to the card. I would have to compare this number to the amount of system memory used by the Crysis process to be sure what that number in the corner is.

How did you do that, and was there a performance boost?

Stupid idea considering GDDR5 is much faster than DDR3.
