CS:S Low FPS

Ok, I have an extreeeemely weird problem in CS:S

I'm on my new computer, yesterday I was running great fps, around 30-60fps which is great seeing that I have a GeForce FX 5200 PCI card...

Well I installed The Ship and it did the DX April Update (I already had v9c, but it had some update), well not I'm gettings 10fps on CS:S...

I don't know if the update is the problem or not...

Please don't say it's because my system is bad, because I have a Dell 2400 right next to me with the same graphics card, worse processor, and worse ram and it runs CS:S at 30-60fps too...

I don't think it's the DirectX update though, because I had this update on the Dell 2400 and it runs CS:S fine still... It may be an error with x64 Windows though, please help me...

My changed settings are:
rate 25000
cl_updaterate 100
cl_cmdrate 100
fps_max 100 (it will never reach this, but who cares)

do a system restore.....it'll undo the update. See if that was your issue
I have the same card, run all settings at low and run the game with the parameter "-dxlevel 70"
According to http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest
my
Video Card Driver Version (DirectX)
Your driver version number is: 6.14.10.9371

My DirectX is DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Well my driver is 6.14.10.9371 so take the last 4 numbers... 93.71, the latest ForceWare
Oh yeah, don't use those drivers with the FX5200.

Get the 84.56's instead.

Ya, I thought that's why it wasn't working

Thanks a lot for that link, I was having a little trouble finding download for x64 old drivers, lol, but now my first try on a google search gave me the same link

Amazing that you're running that graphics card and X64 at the same time...

Its not something you see everday that . However for that card as said by Gonx dont use the 9 Series drivers for that card. . Also be ure to update your chipset drivers as those can have an inflence also
it's steam, they're baddies they screw the game up after every update.. i used to get 150+ FPS @1600x1200 and now after 11+ updates i get 94 ish in a stress test.. it gets buggier after every update.

Please tell me

I've went from 90 avg. in the stresstest on my FX5200, down to stupid 60 avg!

I want to kill Valve sometimes, and I'm very sure that I'm not alone to that, lol.
