A computer with issues most likely needs a XP repair. It has Photoshop CS4 which I'm copying to a external drive for backup.

I'll do an OS repair for the short term but will likely upgrade this build with a new mobo, cpu and hdd.
Can I later drag this CS4 to a new rig or does it have an ULEA attached?

Well, it does have a "Deactivate" option in its programs, if that info helps any.

those programs need to be installed, not just copied over. A ton of information is copied to the registry and hidden files when installing programs that you won't be able to catch by just dragging and dropping. Although the program may run (some will run with just the prgoram files folders), it won't be running properly and you won't have full functionality.

Can I just reinstall the program on a new hard-disk or will it be copy protected?

CS4 activates online, so you will need to uninstall Photoshop and make sure to deactivate the serial number.

Otherwise, you are going to have a new hard drive but not much of a software package to use anyway.
