Ok, so trying to get it to load into RAM... but,

I downloaded DSL, burt to disk, load it up on laptop, and when I type "dsl toram" it says:

Scanning for USB devices... Done.
Can't fine KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
Press reset button to quit.

Additional builtin commands available:
cat
mount
unmount
insmod
rmmod
lsmod

Hmmm...Perhaps the iso is bad? I would try re-downloading it.

Nope. Still nothing... Why is it scanning for USB devices though?

I don't know a whole lot about DSL, I have a CD...but I have not used it much.

From what I've seen, its usually run from a thumb-drive. That maybe why it is trying to read from USB, but it still doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

UNetbootin will install the .iso to USB. All you have to do then is restart and set BIOS boot order. (I know I posted this in another thread, but this is for those who use the search function)
