Dark Knight vertical on AM3?

1028 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  sLowEnd
Is it possible to sit the Xigmatek Dark Knight vertical on an AM3 board, so it blows air towards the back of the case? I've read if I buy Enzotech Type-X AM2 Retention Modules it would allow me to mount it vertically. But it sounds like I'd need to modify it to get it to work, so is there any other easier way?

If not, can someone recommend a good cooler that would allow me to blow the air towards the back of the case.

I'll be using this in a HAF 932, so there's exhaust fans on the back and top of the case. Would that mean it'd be fine to mount it horizontally, with the air blowing towards the top of the case?

Thanks for any help.

yes, there are a couple ways of going about that.

and there is a mount made by a fellow ocn member.
Is this one pretty good?

ZALMAN CNPS 9500 AM2

I don't do any massive overclocking, so not looking for anything amazing. Just one that will fit well without covering ram slots, and can blow air out the back without any modifications.
i'm not too good with aircooling ever since i moved to WC'ing so i'd wait for other members to respond.

EDIT: i didn't explain the other mounting method, you're right. you'll have to use the enzo mount then use something similar to the intel 775 mount.. iirc.

Go with a Megahalem or Mugen 2. Also the DK is a very good cooler. See this thread for custom mount so DK can be mounted vertical

For the price you could do a lot better

Or this if you don't want modifications. It blows out the back without any changes.
