ive heard of programs then recover data from up to 21 even 36 overwrites, but those are govt ones
but that article talked about commertial ones that could recover up to 8 overwrites

data comes from PGP so its a good source

Norton has some utilities that will attempt to recover overwritten data -- it's not a perfect process so you might only get parts of files.

MY DATA is still there

ok I figured it out
I ran the setup from within XP
because I was trying to instal it onto an additional HDD

i did click new installation and the only reason it ran was because it was an install CD with SP2, not SP1 which I used originally

the "new installation" basically deleted andreplaced my old XP files with SP2 ones and all my users and settings are still there

thanks anyways guys
