Ha, they're not joking! Bake it!

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp=llsfp&xhr=t&q=Bake+Video+Card&cp=7&pf=p&sclient=psy&site=&source=hp&aq=0&aqi=&aql=&oq=Bake+Vi&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=c99decee79d1fe4a

A common cause of fault in nVidia GPUs of the time was solder connections going cold. They reportedly had poor soldering, so during enough thermal cycles (heat expands it, cold contracts it), hairline cracks and such can develop. The baking is meant to melt it back together. This is usually merely a temporary fix (from what I've heard).

Also, if the fault is some other thing, this likely won't fix it. If it's dead anyway though, it's worth a try.

All I can do is.. just laugh.. although.. ehem.

Bake it, but plastic side UP!!!
do not let them touch the metal
Step1: take off cooler
Step2: put in oven for x temp and x time (someone experienced with this fill the x's in)
Step3: let cool
Step4: plug in and hope for the best

never put metal in the microwave
Well I'll just confirm after an hour of testing (2 tests) that my 9800GT is for real, dead.

Nothing else I can do but give it to someone else. Although locally

make sure you have a digital thermometer as well as ovens tend to be very inaccurate with temperature. of you can have it BGA'd
if i remember correctly there is a guy that does BGA reballing for 360's over on se7ens forum. he's really good as well from all the feedback that hes gotten. ask him he might do the card for a cheap price
i tried it!!... it didnt worked.... i did it upside down as you told me and it didnt work, it actually blew all the transtistor and a brown liquid came out....but ok.. its a nice experience!!!i lost nothing..thank everybody!!!

Baking it is the most stupid way of fixing your card. Take it to someone and have it reflowed properly. It's not expensive.
