A friend of mine came today with his rig, an IBM 3 years old lappy. I don't remember the exact model number, but that's besides the point.

The thing is that last night while working he told me his screen turned black with no aparent reason. Now, we cen see "something" in a dark room on the screen, it seems to be exactly what it's supposed to be: the win desktop, only very very dark, if there's some light in the room we can't see anything any more. We swiched on the second display to see if the lappy still works and it works just fine connected to my LCD, so the VID card is fine (at least I think so).

Do you have any idea what could have happened to his LCD? Is it reparable?

yeh you can buy replacement ccfl lights

it will mean taking the screen of and then the lcd display to replace it, but it can be done easily with patience
