Should I get it as a temporary GPU while I wait for good prices on newer GPUs?

I would say just buy a used 8800GT-9800GT from someone here and save 20-30 bucks, while you wait.
buy Smasher Basher's EVGA GTS 250 for $100 shipped its better

I agree.

As it's just going to be a temporary measure you don't need to buy new as it'll probably sit in a cupboard for the rest of it's life after your fun. Get it used and save a fair amount of cash.

I had a quick scan but it appears that there are no 'cheap' graphics cards for sale. Maybe create a Wanted thread? Good luck

that is a low power 9800, which means no pci-e connector and only 550Mhz clock speed. it's terrible performance wise BUT it would be a decent backup card or good for a non low profile htpc.

but it's temporary, and this is close, so cheaper the better
his 4850 price is ridiculous, as 4870 price is $10 more or so
even if it is the DK
add $20 and get an open box 5750 for that price
last i saw, it was still available at the egg

120$ for a 5750? Need to find if Newegg.ca has that.

Otherwise, I'll try and find a used 8800 GT. Can't post a wanted yet, so I need to wait a while though or scan the sales.

So a 5750 for 120$? Got to find it on Newegg.ca though.

Otherwise I think I am going to need to find some used 8800 here. I can't post a wanted thread just yet, but I'll try and scan the sales.

They don't really sell any 8800s new, eh?

I think it might even be good for physX later.
im surprised they still sell 9800GTs new. Surely wont last for long

Calling it terrible is quite a stretch, it only performs marginally worse than the regular 9800gt.

I would say, like everybody else, scan the forums for a cheap GPU. There is nothing right now but keep an eye out. I would also look for a 9600gso with 96sp, it would be almost as fast as that 9800gt and be way cheaper. Newegg had them a while back for $35 or so.

I see that there isn't much. But there was recently a 9800GTX+ that went for $50. I'm mad I missed out, would've bought that in a heartbeat.

$50 shipped to US48, I'm sure you could throw in a couple extra and ask him to ship to Can.

There you go, even with extra for shipping to Canada you're still gonna save a few bucks here.

|-NO DEAL-|
get an 8800gt or similar of here for cheap and be happy since gt's usually play any game with acceptable frames.
