Samsung, Philips

Both are good quality and reasonably priced.

look tbh mate brands are good for peace of mind, but no name brands are no worse, i have a 50" soniQ plasma and i have NEVER had a problem with it in the 2 years ive had it. not even a dead pixel. and although they dont advertise it as much as the others mine came with a free 12 month warranty and for my own piece of mind i payed the extra 63 bucks to extend it to three years. if i were you id hit up a generic brand as long as the picture is good Quality then there's usually no problem.

on the brand side of thing. my parents own a samsung 50" for the same amount of time and they also have never had an issue, the only difference being mine was 2 grand cheaper...your choice

as for the "screen image retention" thats what they call it. yes it will if your silly enough to leave it on for more than 2 hours with the same image, like a desktop or frozen image. but most plazmas have a "force white" function that basically turns the screen white for a chosen period of time untill the image fades. this is not an issue after the first 12 months when it usually takes 6-12 hours for my plasma to hold an image. even then it can be forced white'd away by leaving it on force white for about 2 hours

might seem long time but its worth not having a ghost while your watching movies or tv. also expect not to have to pay for heating anymore, they get hot

Samsung for LCD.
Panasonic for Plasma.

Plasma are better for dark rooms.

LCD are better for light rooms.

AVS forum are great for learning about HDTV's.

Good Luck
