A good deal on an excellent monitor

Edit: this is very tempting...did they ever resolve the input lag issues?

I don't think it's any better than the 2407WFP-HC. In games the input lag isn't even noticeable for me, so it never really was a problem.

EDIT: Actually, I think the 2407WFP-HC is better than the 2408WFP. Not by much, but if you can find it for around the same price, I'd say get that instead. Still, it's a pretty good deal.

To use a cliche, you get what you pay for.

Don't understand why you posted this. The monitors you're talking about aren't comparable to this. Apples to Oranges.

Pretty much the same, but the 2408 adds another DVI port, a display port and a HDMI port.

It has a S-PVA panel which is better than TN panels for image quality, color reproduction, angles and higher contrast ratios. Also S-PVA panels are usually 8-bit (like this Dell) while some newer ones are 16-bit, TN panels are 6-bit. The only advantages TN panels offer are price and response time.

Also Dynamic Contrast, IMO, should never be taken into consideration when picking a display.

So essentially, better blacks and viewing angles. But if that never bothered you much in the first place, its not really needed for the average consumer. 6 ms response time might be iffy though...

OCN isn't made up of the average consumer.

Everyone also seems to overlook it's four digital inputs, and four analog inputs, PiP, Picture by Picture, proper scaling of 1080p, and it's tilt, swivel and height adjustment stand (that alone is $75-100).

I have this monitor. It took me weeks of research to decide on it, but ended up being the best monitor I could get for the price.

Never pay attention to all the stated specifications that manufacturers give (dynamic contrast, color contrast, etc.). None of this really means anything because the tests they use to determine it are so flexible and don't give a true picture of what you are purchasing. More important is the panel type, and a reputable brand. This is an S-PVA, and it looks impressive.

One benefit of Dell is that they have a much better dead pixel warranty than other brands, but you shouldn't even have to worry about it. The whole input lag thing was just a small detail blown way out of proportion - it is still debatable whether this even exists. I, however, (after playing Counter Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4, etc.) have never noticed or been affected by input lag.

Here are two small things that bother me about the monitor:
1. You have to cycle through the different inputs, instead of being able to switch to one quickly - this is annoying if you have to change inputs often.
2. There is a confirmed issue with this panel (not a problem with Dell) in which the left side of the panel appears slightly brighter than the right side. This would only present a problem if you are doing graphics work, otherwise, you will never notice it.

Overall, I would say this is a quality monitor backed by a good warranty, with a TON of inputs/ input options. I would recommend it as a multimedia/ gaming monitor. If all you care about is gaming, just buy a TN panel.

EDIT: And I completely agree with Mootsfox that the inputs and STAND make this a great buy. The stand is incredibly useful and very solid. This is a feature that is hard to find on other monitors.

I don't know if the new revision (A01) addressed reported input lag. That said, having had this monitor for over 1/2 a year (and revision A00 - the first release), I have never experienced input lag that would affect my playing - even on something like Armagetron. Also, take a look at this ----> http://aphnetworks.com/reports/input...u_dell_2408wfp. It essentially says that after weeks of testing, he found no significant input lag.

jrs - you should link people to where they can buy it for the sake of convenience.

Great info ^^^ Thanks rep+

I might pull the trigger on this, I have a 5k credit line open with dell. I love my 2005FPW but need an upgrade. recently I've been considering something different like a Samsung or an Acer but if what everyone is saying is true this might be the better route.

Your not going to notice any difference between a 2ms and a 6ms panel.

This is an S-PVA panel, which makes the standard TN panel look like crap. Its like comparing a BMW to a Kia. The Rolls Royce would be IPS panel.

The next monitor that I plan to get will be a Dell 30in IPS panel. They look so much better than the TN panels, and they don't have the color and contrast non-uniformity

Over my years at ocn i have come to the conclusion that ocn is very samsung biased lol

I have had a TN (acer) P-MVA (LG) and a S-IPS(dell 2007wfp) and p-mva DEF looks better than TN and S-IPS vs P-mva is ...well S-IPS is def good looking and GREAT color. but I wouldnt pay 650+ for one.....if you can get one cheap the i'd do it...like $300 but other than that PMVA is perfectly fine
Bought one!

Locally for $280!!!!!!

Well the chances are over... http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...4&sku=320-6272

price is back up to 519.

And Mootsfox, if the 2408 is designed like the 2407 becareful of the power button... mine started to become a little loose where u can spin the whole button upside down and u can only turn it on right side up... so i just let mine go to standby from now on...
