dell dimension 3100 ram

hi,
i am trying to upgrade the ram on my dell dimension 3100, it has 2 sticks of 256mb ddr 533 at the momment.the max supported is 2gb of 533.i bought some ram from ebay, a shop called funky giraffe.2 x 1 gb 533 sticks, but i keep getting an error, pc wont boot with beeps...i have checked with the front diagnostic display and it refers to ram as faulty.i have had ram replaced twice, with same problem....what could be wrong ?..

The new RAM may need more voltage. Unfortunately, the Dell dimms can't be increased in voltage.

Might also be dead ram. Happens all the time.

could just be your ram is dead or your slots are dead

slots cant be dead as the 2 256mb ram works.its ok as ive not had any input i'll just go ahead and buy crucial ram.
