What are you using them for? I'd personally go for the Acer, as I'd love a 120Hz monitor. But if you need the resolution, go for the Dell.
Dell for sure. IPS demolishes 120Hz IMO, and Dell's Ultrasharp models are impeccable in terms of build quality and picture clarity.

For just gaming, the acers are probably your best bet. If you're not doing any design work, not planning on calibrating the screen etc, you're basically paying for a lot of added functionality that you won't be using.

Plus if you do go surround, 7680 x 1440 will be rough, even with dual 580s. You'd probably want to add another 580 to get playable fps in modern titles at that res.

^This. It's not even a competition.

You do realize that the gtx 590 is a dual gpu card. I have 2 which means I have a quad sli set up. You can't go.anything higher than a quad sli set up

Definitely get the quality U2711 Dell over the Acers!

Yes, quad 580. Dual 590 is imho a bastardized quad sli
.

If you want to get some serious stuff, buy 3x 2711 (or even better, 3x 3011) and 4x 3gb 580s. Not that it's useful, but since you're talking about buying 2x 590s, I'd personally waste my money on something better!

Hah, my mistake. I read that as 2x 580s.

In that case I'd definitely recommend the 120s for gaming. With that much GPU power you'll actually be able to run surround in 3D comfortably, which sounds absolutely amazing!

U2711 is an amazing monitor, no doubt. But with just gaming and school work in mind, you're not really going to make use of the features that make it so expensive.

I already have the gtx590s(look in sig). Don't need opinions how to Spend my money or what I spent it on

Nobody in their right mind would buy, much less recommend, an Acer over Dell. You would have to be an idiot to do that.

2x the pixels >>>> 2x the refresh rate
Once we get past the personal decision of 2xfps vs 2xpixels, the 590's 1.5 GB memory (per gpu) will go much further running 3 120hz monitors than it will 3 u2711's.

In this case, it's all about preference. He's not doing any color critical work, so there's no pressing reason to choose a wide gamut H-IPS monitor which will just sit in sRGB mode all day, over a 3D capable 120 Hz.

You are aware that there's more to the Dell than just the high resolution, right?

Not a rag on you (just quoting to get your attention), but the 1.5GB (per GPU) GTX590 will run out of VRAM at surround res, so for *purely* performance reasons, the 3D vision 1080p monitors are going to extract better performance out of the GPUs you have. Ask "callsignvega" or "vega" on the eVGA/[H] forums, he's done the testing with slightly larger monitors (1600p) in eyefinity/surround (3x, since nVidia surround doesn't support 6 monitors), with GTX580 1.5GB quadSLI, HD6970 2GB quadFire, GTX580 3GB quadSLI.

It's also one of the highest PPI monitors on the consumer desktop market?
(reason why some find the AG coating annoying, since the PPI is so high...)

Wait, is this an argument for or against the U2711?
