I'm in the Special Operations command Civil Affairs unit with the army and got word we will be deploying soon... I am looking for a lap under 2k and want it just for games... should I wait for the 280m processors to arrive?

17" on lappy is BIG! lol

pretty close...

nvidia really F'd around on thier mobile naming scheme, IMHO it's flat out fraud.

9600m GT is a 8600 core(crap) and the 9800m GTS(generally accepted as better than GT) is a 9600GT, the 9800m GT is a 8800GS(96sp g92) it appears, and the supposed GTX280m will just be a glorified 8800GTS 512(55nm no doubt, but still...)

This page and it's associated links @ the side of the page should help clear up some of the fraud confusion.

To answer your Q about when the GTX280m based lappys are coming: I'm sorry IDK

Mobility 4850 pushing a decent resolution for a pretty good price.

EDIT: I got beat to the punch.

Yeah, but ur link is cheaper and from a more reputable site it seems.
edit: the one on the egg doesn't appear to have a blu-ray drive. thus explaining the price difference.

GAH! now I want that MSI lappy! lol.

yeah, theoretically at least, the 4850 should come on par or surpass the GTX280m whenever it hits. I say that considering the desktop 4850 beats the 8800GTS 512 and 9800GTX. The GTX+ only wins because of it's higher reference clocks, and I doubt they'll have 'em up too high in a mobile chip for power consumption's sake.

Also I would not say NewEgg is more reputable than XoticPC. You just may not be familiar with them. If you are into performance notebooks XoticPC and PowerNoteBooks are the real deal. They both have the highest BBB rating possible and have been in business for years. They offer much better technical support than NewEgg.

Just thought I would share.

I did not know that. thank you. +rep
