can i replace the cpu in my lappy with a regular desktop cpu? i have a gateway laptop with a socket 754 turion 64 processor so i was wondering if i could replace that with an athlon 64 socket 754??

No ,you may not. They have different bus ratings and stuff. You need a laptop-specific cpu.

Actually, I THINK you may be able to, but it will run much lower than stock, and the heat will be much more than the mobile chip. You can however buy a new mobile chip <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Smile">

what other mobile amd chip is there besides the turion? newegg only has two turions-the one i have and one other thats not worth the upgrade

I don't own a laptop but as far as I know if you remove the IHS on a Athlon64 it should fit, but desktops CPU's use more power and generate more heat. I supose it would work just expect lower battery life.

the ml-32 turion 64....and the x2 is crazy priced so thats a no

depends if ur chipset supports it<br><br>
what about the X2? Idk if it supports ur bios tho

The X2 Turions don´t fit in the Turion sockets cause the X2 use DDR2!<br />
<br />
I would look out for an MT-40!

</div>Yea, and if you put an A64 in the 754 slot, you will no longer be able to use dual-channel RAM. Not sure if the Turions used dual channel or not.....
