DFI Expert + Opty 165 = Bug?

595 Views 13 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  vtech1
I have DFI with the most recent Merlin BIOS. I have an Opty 165. For whatever reason, the system will reboot after POST if my HT is less than 1050MHz!? Unfortunately, there is no 3.5x multi therefore I have to run it at 4x.

Right now my HT is at 312MHz. CPU is at 2808MHz and RAM is at 234MHz. However, HT is at 1248MHz! I want to push the CPU more but I am worried about such a high HT. Any suggestions?

What is the higher HT setting of this board? Is a HT setting of 360-380MHz reasonable? (N/M, found it can 400-500MHz)

Ok... my new Opteron 165 will work only if the HT Multiplier is at 3x and is HT bus is above 1200MHz. Can anyone explain this!?!??!?!

The processor passes MemTest86 fine at all settings. However, Windows will freeze during load or system reboots before Windows loads.... unless I have the above settings. It won't even work at stock.

The CPU is stable at 2808MHz and I want to push it more. However, the HT clock is getting too high.
hmm idk, remove battery and reset cmos jumper? thats really a bummer.
Worry about a high HT... why, so long as it's stable it won't hurt anything.

Listen to Duke, he took the words right out of my mouth. DFIs love high HT anyway.

How would that help with anything....

I can push the processor more... just worried about the HT hitting 1300MHz! Also, *** is wrong with the BIOS... it has to have such a weird combination to work!?

DFI boards have been observed to run at 1600+ HT. Check around on DYI-streets.com (used to be DFI-street)

When I had my sempron it ran 990Mhz HT (800Mhz HT stock) and it was dam stable.

Have you tried any other BIOS for your DFI expert, also can you rase it down to a lower divider for the HT (2x,3x)
Let me put it this way, Duckie, I ran it this way for months and it was perfectly fine. Don't worry about it. (Though not at 3.12+GHz, no amount of voltage could make the mem controller run that fast

Tried different dividers already... no good. Currently using Merlin's BIOS and had used the original latest BIOS... Merlin at least works.

Use the Bigtoe or Tmod bios...Most stable bios you can get and I think it would help you out

Try setting your HTT multi to 3x and also...your ram is at 234mhz? If it's DDR 400 you should try getting it under 200mhz and I think it should be able to start up fine

Merlin's BIOS is a bit newer than Tmod's. I would assume more bugs worked out (one would hope!)

I have DDR500 RAM... It is good up to 254MHz at 3-4-4-10 so I am fine on the RAM side. I just find it so odd that only this one combination works.

I would seriously consider flashing over to the 704 2TBA BIOS from TMod's boot CD posted over at DIY-Street. They were the most trouble free of the DFI BIOS from my experience.
