DFI nF4 Cooling...

594 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Dopin_Nuts
I just got my new DFI SLI-DR, and I love it but I'll just say the chipset doesn't stay below 35* like my Asus A8N-SLI did. There are so many great chipset coolers available, but of course because of my 7800GTX none of them will fit
. So, I need some help, what are some good chipset air coolers that will work with my 7800GTX in??

The only thing I could find was this Vantec and the reviews said it wasn't that good. Also, this cooler needs to be quiet, like under 20 dba.

This is a problem with the DFI board because the chipset is in a spot where it cant be tall at all. I dont think there are any coolers out there that will be much better than stock and be compatible. I'd say use as5 on the cooler and if you can blow a fan at it. You could even lap the stock cooler for the best cooling possible. The above three ideas should lower it by at least 10 C!

The Vantec one is great, it's pretty much totally silent (at least mine was), but yeah, ASUS boards are known for their goofy temp readings, I rember my P4 Northwood would read at around 17-20C idle, and 24C load at 3.2GHz with my crappy air cooler, but it read 30 idle, and 50 load on my Gigabyte.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, I will be sure to at least put AS5 on it tommorow. And if I'm still not pleased with temps, wouldn't that Vantec work better? Because it is copper, and with AS5 how could it not be that much better than stock?

Yeah, with AS5, not only will the thermal transfer be better than the stock stuff, the chipset will make better contact with the NB HSF because stock NB thermal paste is usually pretty crusty, or tough and AS5 is a lot less viscous (if you can even call the stock thermal crap a semi-liquid).

That Vantec cooler is nice. I have one on my Ultra-D with some AS5. Even with 1.7V and under load the chip temp. never goes above 55*C. Besides the stock fan and that Vantec I can't think of any other heatsink that will fit.

I think this Tt chipset cooler will fit.

Tt cooler dimension: 50x50x15(mm)

Vantec cooler dimension: 51X59X14(mm)
Yeah, that will probably fit but any idea how it performs?
the Tt cooler says it moves 12.4 cfm vs the vantec's 3.5. Not sure how good it actually is though.

This is the best one made for the application. The holes line up perfect. Very heavy copper. I bought 2 for my NF-4 chipsets.

OKay, thanks for the link Crash. How much of a decrease in temps did you see with those over stock, and how loud are they?
