Plug in the network cable to the new computer, then unplug the power to the modem for like 20 seconds, then plug it back in (reboot the modem). Sometimes they'll lock to a MAC address and need to be rebooted.
That's kinda strange. Your ISP should be able to help you with that. It could be that your modem is a little flakey and needs to be replaced. Who is your ISP?
In any case, I would recommend buying a wired router. You should be able to find one for under 20 bucks.
