Did the HL2 turret standoff get easier?

I'm playing through Half life 2 again and just got past the 2nd turret battle in "entanglement"; I went into it all psyched up and ready for the hardest part of the series, but it turned out to be more of a "wait for the next bad guy to trickle in" fight than an "out of explosives and down to my last point of health by the time alyx finally shows up" fight. I don't think they ever actually threw a grenade at me...

I double checked that I'm playing on hard, and I haven't noticed any obvious bugs during this playthrough. Did valve update this level to be easier in the past year or two?

That part of the game is set up to reward the player for being clever. I usually set up with turrets inside one of the jail cells and just throw grenades back at the enemies and it's relatively easy. The hardest part of the game is undoubtedly when you have to fight the two helicopters at once before entering Nova Prospekt.
Yeah, that's the tactic I've always used as well. I always thought it came down to either the turret fight or the plaza battle where you have to defend the generator for awhile.
I've found an easy way to game this level. All you do is pick up a turret from behind with the gravity gun and put yourself in the cell thingy it was in. They can't knock it over and they can't really hit you.

This is what I did, it works.
Maybe you just got better

I usually don't hide where the turrets are. I take them down the corridor, lol.

Same
Strangely I'm playing through HL2 easier and the whole game seams easier than earlier. Dunno why.
I imagine you're just learning the AI and what they do. I found the same thing happening in Fallout 3. First time through I couldn't beat it without liberal use of TGM and MoveToQT, by playthrough number three I was free-aiming everything in the land.
Are we talking about the Nova Prospekt turret battle? I had a different approach..

I took all of the props, stacked them up and made stairs up to the combine spawn room, carried 2 turrets up and just killed all of the combine as they spawned with the AR2.

The other easier way is to back yourself into a corner with all of the turrets and let the combine come to you, but not as fun.
dude, if you're going to replay half life 2, get the cinematic mod 10!!

Makes half life 2 look awesome!!!

+1 for that. Completely changed the game for me. Shame it's about 10GB.

I set up cinematic mod once way back in the day, mostly because of their uhh... liberal redesign of alyx. Unfortunately it caused my game to crash before the first level. I take it it's in better shape now?

Edit- just looked at the site and obviously it has. Just hope my sig rig can run it

That liberal redesign is why I refuse to install it. It makes Alyx look like a cheap whore just like every other female protagonist in gaming these days. Do. Not. Want. and yes I am aware I don't have to use the model, but I don't care. Principle, man.

You can disable custom skins with Cinematic Mod 10. Also, note that if you do use that mod, it changes gameplay. I used it on my first playthrough of Half-Life 2 and episodes, and I died so much because of the difficulty increase.

Yeah, I do this except I set up the turrets at the entrance to cells and wait in the turret cells with the shotgun and just watch the bodies pile up
